Anthony Pettis wants to drop for title shot vs. Aldo

At the UFC 156 post-fight press conference, UFC president Dana White revealed that shortly after UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo beat Frankie Edgar in the main event, he received a text from top lightweight contender Anthony Pettis.

"Anthony Pettis texted me and he said, 'I want to go to 145 and fight Jose Aldo,'" said White. "He just texted me 10 minutes ago. He'd go down, telling me he'd go to 145."

White said he had not yet replied.

Pettis beat Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone at UFC on FOX 6, putting him in line to for a title shot at the winner of UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson vs challenger Gil Melendez.

White said if Pettis does drop, he is not sure who would get the next lightweight title shot.

For his part, Aldo is game.

"It's up to Dana, but that is an interesting fight," said the champion. "I train to fight the best and respect them all. Pettis is almost there with a title shot in his own division, but that would be an interesting fight."

Haha, exactly what I was thinking. Show the Showtime Kick and Aldo Superman of the Cage with that flash effect and everyone will be hyped. Both try to finish fights with crazy stand up, and then have great techincal ground game. This has the making to be a masterpiece of MMA

Aldo seems to only be vulnerable to another good striker after 3 rounds. If Pettis could survive 3 rounds with Aldo and still have alot of cardio left, he could ko aldo.lot of if's and speculation, but this is my opinion.

Sick fight,   I still think Aldo will take it but Goddam this would be a great fight to watch.   Still i rather see Aldo move up and compete for that lightweight title though. The way he handled Frankie leads me to believe that he has a big chance of taking the belt in both divisions. It will be intriguing to see if he can stop Bendo take downs and if not how great his ground game off his back really is.

I think this COULD be an exciting fight but I honestly feel after a few good leg kicks Aldo would destroy him. Maybe he can follow in the footsteps of Edgar. Fight the champ and if he comes up short but puts on a strong performance, get an automatic title shot at Aldo.  Really want to see Pettis vs Henderson 2
