Thiago Tavares, not Belfort, tests positive for PEDs at UFC on FX 7

Last week rumors circulated that someone had failed a PED test UFC on FX 7. Talk erroneously turned to Vitor Belfort as the fighter caught, but UFC president Dana White shot down the rumor, although he added that a fighter had failed, and that requisite further testing was underway.

Now Brazil's TATAME is reporting that the fighter is Thiago Tavares, who lost to Khabib Nurmagomedov. Suspension will be for nine months. As Tavares lost, the bout will not be changed to a No Contest.

TATAME exclusively found that the name of the athlete caught is Thiago Tavares. His suspension will be nine months.

Over a 10 year career, this is the first time that Tavares has been caught in a doping test. After earning two consecutive wins, both in Rio de Janeiro, the athlete from Santa Catarina was defeated by Khabib Nurmagomedov event in Sao Paulo. Besides Tavares, seven other athletes were tested by the newly created Brazilian MMA Athletic Commission.

Tavares is the sixth Brazilian to be caught for doping in the UFC. Before him, the athletes Thiago Alves, Thiago Silva (twice), Rousimar Palhareas, Vinicius Queiroz, and Hermes Franca tested positive for illegal substances. Among all of these only Thiago Alves and Thiago Silva won their respective fights.

VTFU and LMFCAO, if I may borrow a phrase. Celtic, not Cuban, though. ;)Although I'm not entirely sure about "most" MMA bloggers - but apparently one, in particular, yes...

Isn't it weird how so many times the guy LOSING the fight pops? I'd love to do an analysis and see if it really skews towards that cause it seems like it. I think that Josh Barnett is the last guy to get caught after winning a fight...

So using ped's to gain lean muscle mass, strength, endurance, and training recovery doesn't help someone win mma fights? Ok, if you say so. I remember when people used to say it doesnt help guys hit home runs either

Well Vitor got an exemption for TRT use didnt he. It might not qualify as TRT use as such but its pretty damm close.I personally do not begrudge the dude for using it. I do not have a big problem with PED if there used in a controlled manner and only under certain conditions (its seems to me that TRT qualifies as such). But it was pretty obvious Vitor was feeling the effects of the TRT strongly. Still he beat Bisping fair and square in my eyes (The Blackzillian still suck though. And i am saying this someone who has appreciation for both Evans and Overeem....jesus they both looked horrid).   I think it sucks that they are changing it to a no -contest. if the guy on PED still loses and get caught why should they change the results at all. Its even more awesome that the dude won his fight. Now Khalib will have a no contest instead of a win on his record and people will get confused about the reason why in the distant future.

Didn't Thiago say he wasn't going to fight someone just recently unless he got 3 or 4 pounds lighter? Sweet justice
