Invicta implements random drug testing

For the first time in its short history, Invicta FC will utilize random drug testing for its upcoming fifth event on April 5. Invicta FC President Shannon Knapp confirmed the news with MMAjunkie.com on Sunday evening. Fighters who will be competing in April were informed of the new policy in late January. An independent agency in conjunction with the Missouri Office of Athletics will handle the testing.

Knapp states that the testing will be done in order to ensure that all Invicta FC athletes are competing on a level playing field. She believes that PED use is a significant problem in MMA and one that affects female fighters as well as men. Invicta FC 5 competitors will be tested at random on the evening before the event. Fighters will not be informed in advance as to whether they will or will not be subject to the testing.

The new anti-PED policy will extend to all future Invicta FC events. The promotion is currently fielding offers from a number of independent testing agencies and hopes to confirm its new testing partner later this week.

While news of the testing comes mere days after the promotion announced the signing of Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos, who tested positive for a steroid in 2011, the plans to institute the new drug tests were first put into place weeks before Santos was brought into the organization.

after seeing the ufc 157 countdown show last night and the invicta logo ALL over, i wonder if this the ufc are bankrolling them? the ufc can burn some money and put a couple full women ppv event just to get a feel how women would do by themselves on a card! and also it just a good place to start testing new things before they bring it to the big leagues, the ufc, since it would could less and you find out the right kind of testing and what to do!

It is random in regards to the people they test. Many of the people don't live in the state, country or continent of the fight, so it would be pretty hard to do random dates. Also, I don't think their motive is to catch people. It is to dissuade them from using. Hard to say how effective it is. Of course plenty will just start cycling instead, but if they know that they are testing I'm sure it'll make more of a difference than if they know they aren't testing.

How the fuck is it a random test if they announce the date of the test in advance??If they really wanted to catch people they'd start testing at random dates from now. Remember that's how Overeem got caught - when they did a surprise random test at a press conference. They'll test cyborg, she'll pass of course and then try to bill her as a clean fighter. Crock of shit.

Might as well not test the Cyborg test. I'm pretty sure those 2 are on a level playing field with each other at least.

it may have nothing to w/cyborg but it's not like they only started thinking about cyborg when they signed her.  she's been on their radar for a while
