White to women-headlined UFC 157 card doubters and haters

When the UFC announced that there was going to be a female fighting in the UFC, and her name was Ronda Rousey, the hardcore fan base was generally positive. Only a few took a moment to lift their knuckles off the ground and shout "girl no good fight, don't like."

When it was announced that the first ever women's MMA fight was going to be the headliner, over names like Dan Henderson and Lyoto Machida, a significant percentage of the hardcore fanbase said it was a travesty, and would never work.

UFC President Dana White has a message for those doubters.

"We're a few hundred tickets from a sellout," White said at Thursday's UFC 157 press conference. "And, the gate is so big because the tickets remaining are all the cheap seats, which is very unusual. Usually we get in these situations and it's more the middle tier seats that are still there. These are the cheapest seats in the place. This is going to be a sellout."

"This is without a doubt the most media attention we've ever had before a fight. And when I am talking about media attention, I'm talking big time media. This gate beat the gate last time we were here when we had the heavyweight championship between Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos.

"There was a lot of smack talk originally when I announced this fight about headlining with two women. Again, I said what would happen and here we are. This gate is bigger and there has been all this talk about pay-per-view buys and wondering how the women would do. I just talked to Lorenzo and this fight is trending very well. All the naysayers and everybody who said this and that about two women headlining a fight, I won't be rude, but you know what I usually say about this."

So what White is saying is "I won't say f@$% you, but f@$% you."

The overwhelming majority of pay-per-view buys are made the day of the event, so there is no definitive way to predict accurately what they will be, but Kevin Iole reports trends suggest it could be as high as 400,000.

who gives a shit about basketball we are talking about mma, jesus how many can you people repeat the same dumb shit so what are you going to say when this event is a success and female mma takes off in the ufc, find some other angle to hate? of course there is a very vocal minority of 'alpha' mma fans who are drawn to mma because watching two dudes beat the shit out of each other, while 'joking' how all women are dumb and only good for sex makes them feel like 'real men' having women given same platform as their male heros and being celebrated for something other than being a sex object or submissive house servant makes them very mad, and their impotent rage is delicious

"Real" MMA fans do, maybe. Casual sports fans don't. Casual sports fans are mostly STRAIGHT MALES who don't watch women competing in anything unless it's foxy boxing or Jell-O wrestling. Im guessing you watch WNBA over the NBA, right?Yeah, you hardcore fan you!Casual sports fans are who matter the most in terms of dollars and they don't watch women play sports. Hardcore fans are the ones who spend their lives online yet STREAM the PPV events.

so basketball fans that don't watch wnba are not real basketball fans?JUst because something sells doesn't mean it is good. Dana White confuses the hardcore fan with thinking that they are company men. They are mma fans first, and would rather have the sport flourish than the company control the sport and have it turn to shit."most media attention ever" That's great but so would freakshow fights. Integrity and sales are not the same.At one point slaves were selling out.Cindy

Looking forward to all the fights on tonights card. Menjivar vs. Faber has the potential to be a wild one on the feet and the ground. Machida vs. Hendo pits elusive counterstriker against a heavy handed aggressive fighter. Rousey is a one of a kind fighter and I couldn't be more psyched to see her in the UFC. Her fight against Tate was amazing and she pulls off throws we have never seen in mma before. Liz isn't being given much of a chance, but I think her combination of solid wrestling and striking may give Rousey more problems that her past opponents. Awesome card and I don't know what people are bitching about. When the main event kicks ass I think a lot of them will be singing a different tune afterwards.

"All the naysayers and everybody who said this and that about two women headlining a fight, I won't be rude, but you know what I usually say about this."That they wont ever headline a card in the ufc and have no place there? thats what he usually says right?

This guy is hilarious. Makes unsubstantiated claim like on fox this would have done 10 million. Then makes a extremely low PPV number for it to be a success lol. Can't really lose with that logic.Um... The card has 4 headliner names not counting Rousey. Not to mention Hendo, Faber, Kos, Rousey, and Carmouche are all California fighters and they were trying toact like they so surprised it had more ticket sales.
