Ronda Rousey to coach TUF 18, with male & female hopefulls

UFC President Dana White announced that the coaches of season 18 of The Ultimate Fighter will be UFC Women’s Champ Ronda Rousey and the winner of Miesha Tate and Cat Zingano.

The season will be a bit of a twist, not only as it’s the first time women have coached, but also because both 135lbs men and 135lbs women will be competing on the 18th season of the show.

The only tryouts for the season will take place April 15 in Las Vegas, two days after the current Season 17 live finale, in which Tate and Zingano fight in the second women's bout in UFC history.

The bout between Tate and Zingano will be at the TUF 17 finale, which takes place on April 13 from  the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

White said that development, as well as other potential things in the works, were predicated on Rousey winning and essentially going over with fans as well as she has so far. He said the UFC had discussions about her being a potential "TUF" coach prior to her first-round armbar win over Carmouche.

"Obviously her winning the fight was a big deal,"said  White. "There were a lot of things going on for that fight that determined it. We had kicked it around that maybe it could happen."

White said he doesn't have any concerns about having a big enough talent pool to fill a cast of women's bantamweights for the house.

"We already know we have enough women to do it," said White. "And every time you do tryouts people pop up that you never knew about."

There were a wide variety of reactions from the MMA world, uniformly positive. Joe Rogan's reaction was felt by many:

Miesha Tate's was too :-)

"I think #TUF18 would benefit from a Trojan sponsorship," tweeted Tate, who added "#JustSayin."

This is desparately what TUF needed. Now they could add Junie Browning as the butler, Julian Lane as the gardener, etc. What's the coach's challenge going to be this time? Spin the bottle?

Unfortunately "drama" is the core of all reality shows, TUF never being the exception. The very first reality show "MTV's Real World", actually began serious until there was tension and the producers were like "Hey we are on to something", and reality shows have been melodramatic every since.Getting more off the point, you may not be old enough to remember that shows like Maury and Jerry Springer initially began as serious talk shows before the chairs from the neo-nazis started flying on Geraldo and cheaters getting caught on Sally Jessie Raphael and Ricky Lake.People love voyereuism. They enjoy watching people's lives who much worse off than there own.

DUMB! DUMB! DUMB! You don't have both male and female fighters living under the same roof, especially with alcohol inovlved. This needs to be an all female show. The last all female fighter show was very successful when it introduced Gina the the world. There will be enough drama with a house filled with women. There does not need to be an addition of males to the mix.

You'll get your wish for #1 many times over if female and male athletes are in the same house. Should be an action packed season indeed. site profile image
