White: Diaz should have been penalized

Throughout this fight with Georges St-Pierre at UFC 158, Nick Diaz tried to get into the head of his opponent and rope him into a brawl. Diaz shoved GSP after the bell ended the first round, and also took a swing at him after the second round ended as well. UFC President Dana White commented on the situation at the post-fight press conference:

“In my opinion, the ref should have taken a point away right there. That wasn’t like, oops, I didn’t hear the bell.  It was intentional and it should have been a point,” said White during the UFC 158 post-fight press conference.

Diaz denied that he was actually trying to hit St-Pierre after the bell.

“I didn’t really try to take that shot.  I just threw it across his face. I know it sounds like some (expletive), but I really wasn’t going to hit him with that.  I was just being really mean out there because I wanted him to try to hurt me, try to finish me,” said Diaz during the post-fight press conference.

Diaz’s antics usually entail talking to his opponents, taunting them and an occasional obscene gesture in an attempt to bait them into attacking.

“That’s his style.  His whole style is to either get in your head to intimidate you or get in your head to get you to fight his kind of fight and play his game.  That’s what he does,” said White. “That’s definitely his style.”

So UG, do you agree? Should Diaz have been penalized for this antics after the bell had rung at the end of those rounds?

Whatever guys, all I know is that if i heard the horn blowing I would be expecting to get up and go to my corner... instead Diaz got a knee to his ribcage.  If the horn lasts 5 seconds, should they just keep on fighting? Cheapshot... GSP should know better!

I thought this thread was referencing the fence grabbing.

Just watched it again... GD... The bell was still sounding, after Georges landed the knee.It was a legit knee. Nick is just a punk, and he should have had a point taken. He lost dramatically, to a superior fighter. That's all.Normally I'd be happy to root for the American fighter to bring a title home. But, the better fighter won.

What the hell are you blabbering about? All that happened at the end of the 1st was Nick flailed his hands in a little tantrum and made the ref restrain him.Georges stopped at the bell. Smoke weed in moderation buddy.

What makes Diaz foul more blatant is that he threw the punch after the referee had put his hand on Diaz' arm, to stop him punching. We the ref removed the hand, Diaz threw the late punch.Aren't fighters expected to follow referee's instructions at all times?

Also something to consider, GSP has a near perfect track record and benefit of the doubt can be given, regarding his knee at the end of the first. He was starting his wind up as the bell was sounding, he didn't have much time, and he didn't throw it very hard. Nick, had a second or two before he threw an obvious punch.

^^^  Hey bro, read OP again...  They are also talking about the end of first round.  I don't know about you, but it is clear as fucking hell that the horn sounded and then GSP kneed him...  How else would you expect a Diaz brother to react in that situation?   Yeah, your squeaky clean poster boy company man champ took a cheapshot at Diaz first and started all that bullshit that occured at the end of the first round.  Diaz responded they way anyone would respond in that situation. I wonder why the OP failed to mention the knee after the bell?    And everyone wonders why Diaz always feels like the world is out to get him...

Your fucking joking right.....are your really comparing the two with a straight face?   What Diaz did was a blatant fault. It was unsportsmanlike behaviour because it was intentional as fuck. He just did not care and wanted to bait GSP. He did it intentionally and because of it he should be punished for it. They should have taken a point and they also should take a part of his purse after the fact to show people that this shit does not get tolerated.   What GSP did was hardly intention,it was hardly blantant and he did not try to do it to bait Diaz in any kind of manner.   But lets not get into semantics here. The clear difference is that Diaz admitted to it and hence has to be punished for it.   I am really dissapointed in Dana that he did not publicaly state that he would take away 5 percent of Nick current purse because of the infriction. Its so sad that they way they go out of there way to accomodate him, they almost treat him like a retared person, a special needs child who deserves pity instead of respect.

What kind of fucking logic is that....if only ten procent of financial malfeasence cases get convicted does that give you a legitimate reason to just rob everybody blind. Your kind of reasoning lead to the financial crises among other things.   Diaz cannot be spilling all this bullshit about being a martial artist and then forgetting about the moral code that comes with it. Apart from that he blatantly broke a rule that is not only moral but also on the books. He should have been punished for it during the fight and i personally think he deserves punishment (him and the few others that also do it....its fucking rare in MMA) after the fact. Dana needs to give him a big fucking fine because if they let this shit slide then they are really opening themselves up to credibility issues. They gave him enough allowances already with all the antics. This is something that really should not be able to stand.
