'India' Gomes injured, out of Cris Cyborg fight, Fiona Muxlow in

ATT fighter Ediane 'India' Gomes has suffered a rib injury, and is out her headline fight with Cris Cyborg at Invicta FC 5

Cyborg will now fight rising star Fiona Muxlow of Townsville, Queensland Australia in a featured featherweight (145 pounds) bout at the Invicta Fighting Championships women’s world championship doubleheader event at Ameristar Casino Hotel Kansas City.

Muxlow’s original Invicta FC 5 featherweight opponent, hard-punching Julia “The Jewel” Budd of Port Moody, BC Canada, will be matched with a new opponent to be announced soon.

Fighting out of Team Takedown Australia, the 35-year-old, 5-foot-5 Muxlow, a highly-skilled grappler, recently reeled off three consecutive victories before her win streak was snapped at the hands of top-ranked superstar Marloes Coenen at Saitama Super Arena in Japan on Dec. 31, 2012.

Muxlow jumpstarted her professional career by defeating three consecutive opponents – all by way of submission – in one night of action in a featherweight tournament in New Zealand on June 2, 2007.

Julia Budd wants none of Cyborg. When Cyborg joined Invicta, she stepped out of the fight and opted to fight Fiona Muxlow. Now, Julia Budd's original opponent, Ediene Gomes, is injuried, and, coincidentally, it's Fiona Muxlow who takes the fight...Interesting...Anyways, Fiona can't hang with Cyborg, but she gets props for taking the fight on a short notice. A real fighter at heart. As to Ediene Gomes... she was evenly matched against Hiroko Yamanaka and edged her barely (29-28). Cyborg murdered Yamanaka in 16 seconds. Cyborg has superior stand-up, wrestling and even jiu jitsu.

They should have had Guyborg fight that tranny fighter. I am sure it has been suggested already.

Muxlow has only one win against someone with a winning record (2-1) and half of her wins are against fighters who had zero MMA experience.Glad to see that Cyborg is stepping up and challenging herself more than ever.

Rousey has trainwrecked some of the best fighters on earth that way so whatever. Gomes had a much, much, much better chance of pulling off the upset than Muxlow. I'm sure Muxlow is one tough lady and nothing against her but she's not at Gomes' level. Gomes has improved tremendously since moving to ATT btw, so keep that in mind too. And the comparison to Petruzelli is silly. Cyborg aint Kimbo Slice.

Muxlow's gonna die... Budd would have been the superior replacement, even if she blocked me on Twitter. I'm actually really surprised she wasn't the one to take the fight. Muxlow was originally brought in to fight Budd.     Mostly yes, it is that awful, and that's one reason the UFC won't really touch it right now. However, keep in mind that Cyborg, Cindy Dandois, and Yana Kunitskaya are all unranked due to inactivity, and there are several prospects who just don't have the experience level who are probably better than Muxlow, like #9 Tamikka Brents (2-0, 8-0-1 amat.), Veronica Rothenhausler (1-0, 3-0 amat.), and Taylor Stratford (0-0, 13-1 amat. only losing to Rousey).

It is really a lose/lose situation. Cyborgs original opponent had been beat within 25 seconds in Rousey's very first pro fight. Cyborg would have had to win in a serious fashion to show how good she is, or it would backfire. Now Cyborg is simply fighting another lopsided fight so Tito can talk about how great she is. Props to the woman for taking a fight against Cyborg on such short notice, but this fight will mean nothing in terms of quality wins by Cyborg. Who knows? Maybe she could pull a Petruzelli and derail the train... That would be interesting.

The Aussie saw a three-fight winning streak snapped in her most recent outing on New Year’s Eve, when she was submitted by onetime Strikeforce titlist Marloes Coenen at Dream 18 in Japan. The 35-year-old has finished three of her six career victims by way of submission and has yet to be knocked out in eight pro appearances.
