Dana White told Ariel Helwani that Gustafsson vs. Mousasi 'still on'

Swedish media outlet Sportspegeln reported that "The Mauler" suffered a significant cut in training and will be unable to fight this weekend vs. Gegard Mousasi at UFC on FUEL TV 9.

However, UFC President Dana White contacted UFC Tonight reporter Ariel Helwani, and said, emphatically, that the fight is still on.

Ariel Helwani ‏@arielhelwani
Hold up! @danawhite just told me @AlexTheMauler vs. @mousasi_mma is STILL ON. "The SAC has not said he can't fight + he wants to fight."

The term SAC above refers the the body regulating the event in Sweden.

Gustafsson is 15-1 and is poised to earn a title shot if he is successful this weekend.

Where would the "unstacked" fighters fight then? Not in the UFC. That's for sure.

Its not 2004, the 3 month comments dont make much sense anymoreBut if you took 3 months worth of events and put them into one card it wouldnt matter if the few best fights fell apart, the event would be so fucking stacked it would be unreal

If the main ends up being Ross Pearson vs. Randy Couture (and nothing against those guys but that would be horrible), I think it's a given that they'll offer refunds.  I know this is a Fuel card, but they should have added some safeguards, like a semi-main-event that could plausibly headline, and another LHW fighton the card, preferably with at least one semi-relevant fighter, in case someone in the main got injured. For Swedish fans, no one who isn't a PPV-only fighter can really replace Gustaffson, but the UFC still should have had a back-up plan.

He doesn't have to offer refunds, read a ticket once. Card is subject to change!

Do you not read? More than one person has been quoted on this thread saying that "Gus" in fact DOES want to fight.

As Gegard admitted, he's going to just fire away at the cut. This is why Rory had to drop out of the BJ fight the first time. You can't ask an elite fighter to not totally focus on a glaring target. This card is in major trouble. We're going to be hearing from some angry Swedes, as they paid top dollar for a card with no marquee fight.Yikes.

Dana won't admit to it being off, otherwise he'd have to start issuing refunds.  If he waits until Friday, it doesn't give people, especially those who will be traveling later this week, much time to cancel.  He's no dummy but for those that paid, enjoy Ryan Couture as a main event.

It's not off until the AC doesn't clear him for the fight. Dana is just hedging. He's technically correct but everyone knows he won't be cleared on Friday and then the fight will be off.
