Teixeira calls for more 'common sense' in gun control

"My niece was a first-grader at Sandy Hook Elementary," Teixeira said in the video. "She survived. She was lucky. We were lucky. Her life, our kids, her future, they can't always count on luck."

Teixeira goes on to give his thoughts about assault weapons as well as calling for a more "common sense" approach to enacting gun control laws.

HAHAHAJust thought I'd bump it as there were some good and bad points in this thread as well that might add to the new conversation.Always a contentious topic.

I don't believe that unless i see a source. He has a green card now. I'm pretty sure he left because his visa expired.

What the hell does Glover Teixeira know about anything?! I never even liked his movies. He's the most unfunny guy on the big screen. I thought Me, Myself and Irene SUCKED!

I like how our homicides are down by 50% over the past 30 years and there is more outcry than ever regarding gun control.  The problem is that these mass shooters get so much fuckin publicity so they are going to happen again by these psychos that crave attention, whether we have very strict gun laws or not.

Yet you still offer no reasonable way to cut down on gun violence. I said that the reason for the mass shootings was more attributed to a lack of treatment or access to mental healthcare for the people committing such horrible crimes than it was gun control and you told me it wasn't yet your solution to gun violence is mental health checks for the whole household lol. You also claim that you don't believe in banning certain guns as the solution so what exactly are you at odds with pro-gun people on this thread for? I think you are just being a drama queen and looking for reasons to argue with people that aren't there.

Well I wouldn't say that every major city and town across the USA has cracked down on gun laws like you say Chicago did, however, the homicide rate throughout the country is down by more than 50% since 1980.  It dropped again in 2012 to 4.6 per 100,000, per this below article. "The national homicide rate for 2011 was 4.8 per 100,000 citizens — less than half of what it was in the early years of the Great Depression, when it peaked before falling precipitously before World War II. The peak in modern times of 10.2 was in 1980, as recorded by national criminal statistics." "And, no matter what your favorite politician says about gun control or the lack of it, the homicide rate has been near stagnant or falling for 21 consecutive years" http://articles.washingtonpost.com/2012-12-19/lifestyle/35929227_1_homicide-rate-randolph-roth-gun-control

While there are obviously homocides in there that are not from guns, the small percentage of non gun homicides does not fluctuate much at all over those years. Still shows a drastic decline since gun laws in Chicago were put in place. You still had no intelligent counter. A straw man about drunk drivers was your best possible response...lol

I bet you don't realize the numbers he posted are wrong. Those are not gun related deaths, they are strictly just deaths. If they were gun related deaths the 2012 number would not be 506 it would be 435, so there is no distinction in those numbers about whether they are gun related or not. He got the numbers straight from Wikipedia and they are even labeled "Homicides in Chicago by year" not gun deaths. So we still haven't gone anywhere.
