Weidman: I want to shock the world

Chris Weidman is scheduled to fight Anderson Silva at UFC 162 in July and of course is coming into the fight a huge underdog. But that doesn't deter his spirit and speaking with The Fight Network, he explains why:

"I'm a huge fan of Anderson Silva. He's one of my favorite fighters to watch. Obviously he has 16 fights in a row with the UFC, defended his belt, whatever it is. He does a great job, he is so confident. He is beating most of guys before they even walk in the cage. Once they get in the cage with them, he does such a great job of making them feel like they do not belong in the cage with him, like, ‘Are you joking me? You are not on my level.' He makes them feel so uncomfortable that they just want to break. He has them broken and then he can hit them with whatever he wants and then he looks like a freaking God.

I agree and I do think he is the best of all time. He is pound-for-pound the best, but I think I'm better. I think I can beat him. There's a lot of motivation for the fight. One of the biggest for me is to prove all of those people that actually think I'm going to get killed and see him as unbeatable. I can't wait to prove them wrong. I want to make it look easy out there. I want to shock the world."

It'd be truly shocking if Chris choked himself out at the start of the 1st.

Weidman is awesome, and a great fighter, but he's the one that's getting shocked when he realizes Andy is just that good, not just that his opponents shut down

Given Silva is a black belt in BJJ, I doubt it.

Rory N Ricci s Third Wheel Member Since: 12/30/12 Posts: 264 "I disagree. You act like Silva has faced a who's who of fighters that casuals all are familiar with. Truth is if they see Anderson Silva lose to Chris Weidman, people are immediately going to be intrigued in this "Chris Weidman character"and want to watch his future fights because he will ALWAYS be the guy that beat Anderson Silva. "I disagree. I think if Silva ever loses, people will be more inclined to see how he does in his next fight as opposed to what the guy who beat him does. This was true of Mike Tyson when he loss to Buster Douglas. No one really cared about Douglas, his only reason for staying in the media was because it was revealed that he'd face new Heavy Weight contender Holyfield. The media and fans were only wanting to know who he would face next and how he would overcome his first loss.

After watching him struggle with Alessio Sakara, I can't see him beating Silva at all, much less beating him easily. He hasn't made any of his recent opponents look like amateurs, but he's gonna do that to the champ?

It's both. Anderson is best of all timeIn terms of accomplishments but Chris will beat him and therefore is better.
