White: 10-fight contract extension with Anderson Silva a done deal

Back in December UFC President Dana White told the media that he had signed a new ten bout contract extension with UFC champion Anderson Silva. Shortly after long time manager Ed Soares refuted the story, citing the deal hadn't been finalized.

During a Q&A yesterday, White expressed that he now thought the deal was done:

A much-reported deal to extend Anderson Silva's time in the UFC is done, according to Dana White

While the UFC president hedged slightly by saying "as far as I know," he said Silva's new contract is for 10 fights. He didn't say whether the deal had an expiration date.

"I haven't talked to Anderson in about a month, but as far as I know, it's done," White said during a fan Q&A sponsored by the UFC's official wireless partner, MetroPCS

Silva's longtime manager, Ed Soares, declined comment to MMAjunkie.com.

At 38 years old and having defended his UFC title a record ten times, it is likely that this contract extension will bring the middleweight champion to the end of his career.

Exactly. The minute Silva's amazing reflexes start to slow (which they do with age) he'll start having harder fights and potentially lose. So this "10 fight deal" is not something I want to see. I want Silva to retire on top with a perfect UFC career. Sucks seeing great fighters getting KO'd when out of their prime :/

Maybe but that's probably not true. As good as Anderson is, if he continues to fight 2x per year there's a pretty good chance someone will beat him within the next 3 years. Even if he managed to stay undefeated, I don't see how he has more bargaining power at age 41 than at age 38.

I assume he means that Anderson would make more money if he just signed a 3 year (5-6 fight) deal now and then negotiated a new contract 3 years from now.

Marketing ploy to make him seem more long term viable and on top than he is. Huge Silva fan but he's nearing the end.

Think he's got about 3-4 fights left at most but who knows.I'd love to see him fight 10 more times but it greatly increases his chances of losing and would rather he retire undefeated in UFC as GOAT.Possible matches I'd love to see after Weidman...MousasiEvansShogun
