Jones TKOS Sonnen in first to remain UFC Light Heavyweight Champ

As promised, Sonnen pushed forward quickly at the bell, though it was Jones who scored the first takedown. Sonnen, who recently coached opposite Jones on "The Ultimate Fighter 17," scrambled up to his feet, and Jones surprisingly elected to fight inside the clinch rather than use his massive reach advantage. Several takedowns followed as Jones seemed intent to prove he was the superior wrestler. A barrage of punches and elbows followed, and Sonnen was clearly in trouble as he lay on his side.

As Jones methodically picked apart the undersized challenger, he pulled Sonnen's arm away and blasted him with vicious elbow strikes and a devastating knee to the body. The onslaught ripped apart Sonnen's face, and referee Keith Peterson called a stop to the fight with 27 seconds left in the opening frame.

In a bizarre turn of events, as Jones celebrated his victory, he looked down to notice a gruesome break of his left big toe. It quite possibly could have threatened to end the fight in freak fashion had Jones not gotten the first-round stoppage.

Afterward, Jones said he didn't immediately know when the injury occurred.

I don't think you know what significant strikes really is. Chael's strikes didn't rock jones, win him a decision, make jones change his game plan..... Or change anything in the course of the fight whatsoever. He might as well have not even threw a single punch. Therefore, they are entirely insignificant strikes.

I must rephrase. NOBODY saw it coming exactly how it played out. (except pathetic adolescent pimple-faced little Jones nuthuggers who will claim they knew all along)

you just learned this?if you watch mma you could clearly see that jbj is the best in the game.he was not getting taken down plus he could and would take chael down just about any time he wanted...nothing new at all.he does the same to andy and this is nothing new at all.

Credit to Chael. Was a man of him to admit that even if he lasted and got the belt via injury that a rematch would have just been the same result. Also think Chael is getting too much undeserved negativity. NOBODY saw it coming exactly how Jones was going to fight the way he did. NOBODY! So Chael got steamrolled in a fashion that NOBODY could have prepared for. Also ... in seeing how Jones fought the way "Chael" fights but with more violence. Jones would easily take Silva down and blast him to next week. The Silva - Jones fight died tonight. Silva ain't a dummy.
