Manager: 'Nothing' for Nelson in Cormier fight

Saturday night Roy Nelson knocked out Cheick Kongo, in the first. This follows a KO of Matt Mitrione in the first, and Dave Herman, in the first.

In a pre fight interview, Nelson expressed the hope that a big win over Kongo would earn him a title shot, something he was willing to wait for.

UFC President Dana White post fight that he had discussed with matchmaker Joe Silva who's next for Nelson, and they determined it would Daniel Cormier or Mark Hunt.

Cormier beat Frank Mir recently, and Hunt fights Junior dos Santos next month.

"If he wants to get to the title shot, those are the guys he deserves," White said.

Cormier agreed.

"Hey @danawhite ur right," tweeted Cormier. "I think Roy Nelson and I would be a damn good fight. How about it @roynelsonmma."

However, speaking on UFC Tonight Tuesday, Ariel Helwani related that Roy Nelson's manager Mike Kogan was going to advise his client not to take the fight against Cormier, if indeed one is offered. Kogan said a fight with Cormier makes no sense for Nelson.

Kogan had specific ideas about who he wants for his client:
•Antonio Silva, if Silva loses to UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez at UFC 160; or,
•Either the winner or loser of UFC 160’s co-main event between Junior dos Santos and Mark Hunt.

In a twist, Nelson himself said he would take a Cormer fight.

"@arielhelwani you should always come to the horse,
" tweeted Nelson. "If I have to go through DC to get my belt! I will. @mikekogan"

So who do you think would be best for Nelson to fight next? Why?

A lot of fighters have fights that don't end up being that exciting, but that doesn't take away all they accomplished in the past.Or what the are capable of doing in the future against other fighters.DC knocked out Bigfoot who is now getting a shot at the tittle. He beat Josh who has way more experience fighting top level fighters.I'm not a fan of Frank Mir but he has proven to be a very good fighter. No he's not markedly superior to all other fighters but beating him does mean something in the UFC HWD.Saying DC is all hype because he beat Mir the way he did makes no sense. Most fighters will have a boring fight now and then.Roy vs anyone is most likely going to be a fun fight.DC will properly be able to take him down at will and win the fight fight that way.

I was dissapointed Cormier didn't really prove what his striking could do against Mir. I'm farily sure he'd clinch Roy too.

Manager is all about posturing and getting money and all, not saying the right thing.

I'm thinking it will be the opposite. DC will take Roy down and pound him out. Roy has fought standing the entire time he has been with the UFC. He's a good ground guy but how is he off his back? The only time I've seen him there was against Mir in a grappling comp. Can't remember if he ended up there against Mir in MMA. When DC fought Mir, his gameplan was not to go the ground or stand but clinch the entire time. Really boring strategy but it took Mir out of his gameplan. Mir is dangerous off his back, I don't know if Roy is.

JOESONDO - DC is a bad style match up for Roy. Has Roy even been on his back since he got to the UFC?
Why does this even matter? Not like Roy is gonna try to take him down since he obviously favors the stand up game, and IMO he has a better chance to knock DC out than anyone he's fought so far. Remember, DC wasn't that impressive against Mir, who is certainly not a world beater himself.Should be a good stand up fight. EDIT: Oops, for some reason I thought you asked if DC had been on his back, so disregard the first part of my comment.

If he doesn't want fights like this, he should be content to remain a gatekeeper sideshow.
