Overeem vs. Browne confirmed for August 16th on FOX Sports 1

Earlier this month a rumor circulated that Alistair Overeem would be making his return to action at the UFC's debut on FOX Sports 1 on August or possibly UFC 164. Today we learn that a bout with Travis Browne at the FOX Sports 1 event has been confirmed:

Alistair Overeem's return to the octagon has been shifted from UFC 164 to the promotion's debut event on FOX Sports 1.

Mutiple sources close to the event today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that Overeem (36-12 MMA, 1-1 UFC) is set to meet fellow standout heavyweight Travis Browne (14-1-1 MMA, 5-1-1 UFC) at UFC on FOX Sports 1 1, which takes place Aug. 17 at TD Garden in Boston.

Although the fight will be part of the night's main card and a major attraction, it won't even be the main event, UFC President Dana White subsequently told MMAjunkie.com. That assures at least one other significant bout will be added to the card.

Overeem will probably pull out with an injury.

He's saying that if he didn't get injured he would have beat Bigfoot, therefore advancing him to a title shot.

Tracks Browne? Title shot. Where do you make this up from?

Reem takes this one. Hopefully he learned to show respect and keep his hands up..

The Brock fight was evidence of his TDD (though not much else), but I thought the Duffee performance was pretty damn impressive. It doesn't matter though, because I attribute most if not all of his success to PEDs, and he's not the same fighter without them.

This fucking sucks for 164.

I really think Browne wins this and dismisses the notion that Overeem is the future champ. He is faster, is just as dangerous of a striker as he is, and has a great chin and cardio. Overeems clinch work is great but he shouldn't underestimate Browne. I will take Browne by second round TKO, he earns his rightful place in the top 10, and Overeem becomes a fringe top 10 gatekeeper.

Outside of Brock, I haven't been impressed with any of Overeem's recent performances, wins included. His hands aren't all that great and therefore he relies too heavily on his knees. Browne is too quick and extremely underrated. He'd be fighting Cain this weekend were it not for the leg injury vs. Bigfoot.

After the illegal blows he gave Gonzaga, I am not a fan of Browne at all. Aside from that, Overeem wins this one easily.
