Silva: GSP chose not to fight me

Reigning Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre recently told members of the mixed martial arts (MMA) media that Chris Weidman would defeat Anderson Silva in the main event of the UFC 162 pay-per-view (PPV), which takes place on July 6, 2013 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Not just defeat, but finish, too.

That didn't sit well with "The Spider" who was asked about St. Pierre's comments on today's UFC 162 media conference call (updates and live blog here), In fact, Silva fired right back, insisting that "Rush" had his chance to accept a "super fight" but chose not to.

"St. Pierre had his chance to pronounce himself fighting me and he chose not to do it. [So] that's what he chose to say."

Was it this secret call at UFC 159?

Completely laughable that you Anderson nut huggers are bragging about Irvin, Griffin, and Bonnar like they are killers at 205. That wasn't a test, it was an exhibition for Anderson. The same way his first fight in the UFC was Chris Leben. Anderson feeds on aggression and those guys were excellent prey for the Spider. I get why he's calling out GSP instead of Jones. He wants the biggest pay day possible and he feels he can get that through GSP. However, beating the smaller GSP adds very little credibility to his legacy. He'll forever be looked at as the champ that continuously chose the path of least resistance. JBJ is where his real test is, but the Spider isn't concerned with testing himself, he wants to get paid. That's his legacy.

Forrest fight was the only fight that was planned. Irvin and Bonnar were both short notice fights that Anderson took as a favor to the company.

It's bigger for hard core fans like us. But GSP still has a ton more mainstream marketability. Also if you do GSP/Silva first, you can still do Jones/Silva later. Marketing a GSP/Silva fight after a Jones/Silva fight would be tough

I don't blame him for wanting to avoid the fight, I take issue with the fact that he won't just come out and say he has no interest in the fight. He has to come up with bullshit responses like, I would have to put on the proper weight.

The thought of them fighting (not sparring), and not holding back like we know they would, gives me an epic MMA boner....

came on here to say this, Silva fought Irvin after FIVE fighters at 205 turned the fight down, including Rashad and there was speculation that Shogun was one of them. what an ugly little fucking troll this herman munster is, talking about "hand picked" oppenents when nobody would even take the fight.
