Gilbert Yvel announces retirement

Dutch lightheavyweight Gilbert Yvel announces his retirement from MMA at age 36. In an interview with the German MMA site GnP, Yvel talks about his career highlights, as well as his future as a trainer at Germany's Agoge MMA.

Yvel talks about his first fight, which took place over 15 years ago; it was a DQ loss. Yvel's reputation for in ring rules violations was such that the Nevada State Athletic Commission refused to license him in 2007. He was however granted a conditional license in 2009, and had no incidents for the last few years of his career.

Yvel is a PRIDE, Affliction, UFC, RINGS, M-1 Challenge, Cage Rage, and K-1 veteran, among others. He holds wins over 'Dirty' Bob Schrijber, Semmy Schilt, Gary Goodridge, Cheick Kongo, and Pedro Rizzo, among many others, and went out with back to back victories.

There are few things about a man's past that will forever tarnish him in my eyes, these things are not in that category. He was much more well behaved when he came back to the US, looks like he matured a lot, as someone already said

Good riddance to that psycho. Any man who bit people, gouged opponents eyes, and knocked out a referee deserves scorn for the rest of his days.

One of the first fights I ever saw was his fight against Schilt and I was an instant fan.Friended him on FB (because he didn't have his own page and my dumbass didnt realize it was his personal account; friended me anyways) way back when he had less than 100 friends, gotten to talk to him on there occasionally. Always a nice guy and posts funny ass vids.Glad to see he's hanging them up; think his family has a lot to do with it and wanting to be with his kids. Just my guess.WAR YVEL
