Sonnen opens as favorite over Rua

Despite having lost his last two bouts, Chael Sonnen will still go into his UFC on FOX Sports 1 bout as the favorite to Mauricio Rua:

Nonetheless, the self-proclaimed "American Gangster" from West Linn, Ore., is currently sitting as an early betting favorite (-139) over former 205-pound champion, Mauricio Rua (see the line here), in the build-up to their UFC on FOX Sports 1 #1 main event, which is slated for TD Garden in Boston, Mass., on Aug. 17, 2013.

However, it's safe to assume that more than a few combat sports fans are scratching their heads with the oddsmakers' assessment. That's because Sonnen was able to talk the talk in his two most recent fights, but failed to walk the walk, coming up empty in consecutive title challenges against Anderson Silva at UFC 148 and then Jon Jones at UFC 159.

To me this all comes down to what kind of Mauricio "Shogun" Rua we will see in the cage.I know he has been working on his boxing with Freddie Roach over at Wild Card, and he claims to be injury free. If we see Shogun like we did at UFC 104 where he "unofficially" beat Machida I think he should easily defeat Sonnnen. In my eyes Shogun has always been his biggest enemy. Not in the traditional sense that a guy doesn't have the heart or what not, but the opposite really. Shogun still has a strong mind, passionate heart, but his body is not what it use to be. Prime Shogun 2004-2007 was one of the scariest human beings on the planet. I hope Shogun is in good health and condition and that he is able to perform well. WAR SHOGUN!I was really looking forward to the Shogun vs Lil Nog rematch, but this is a very interesting match. A lot of people underrate Shogun's jiu jitsu and overall ground game, he has great jiu jitsu and overall ground game. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he submitted Sonnen.

Have not learned that Sonnen already abandoned the far superior (at that time) LHW division to fight in the much weaker MW division after getting tooled by Babalu? Have not learned Shogun swept far superior fighters with ease multiple times, or maybe you just never saw it and are a FOX NOOB!
