White: Alvarez should fight for Bellator, but they should pay him

After months of jockeying in court, UFC President Dana White now believes that the best path for Eddie Alvarez may be to return to Bellator MMA, despite his ferociously voiced desire to fight in the UFC. This follows the announcement that, barring a settlement, Alvarez will not even appear in court to argue his case until Sept, of 2014.

"He should fight for [Bellator]," White said Monday. "First of all, they have every right – he signed a contract, and they have every right to him. But at least pay the kid the money. (That's) the reason that you get that clause in your contract where you get out find out what you're worth. You get to get out there and shop around and see what Eddie Alvarez is worth. Well, Eddie Alvarez found out what he's worth, and they've refused to pay him that. It's bulls---."

"So now this kid's life and his career have been in limbo here while they're in this battle. That's dirty boxing s---. That's what boxing does. Boxing tries to tie you up and make so you can't make any money and all this s---. We've never done that to anybody, ever."

"Just pay him or let him go."

Bjorn did not match the contract. Jordan Breen from sherdog said "Bjorn saying replacing the word UFC with Bellator is NOT matching the contract."

"If Bjorn truly thinks the "athletes" are the "stars" and not the company, why on earth is he fucking with a top athlete's career? That's reprehensible and disgusting."Eddie Alvarez brought the lawsuit not Bjorn.

By not letting UFC cherry pick their roster with low ball offers, Bellator is driving wages up and not letting UFC get away with half-assed contracts with wordings like "we intend to do this and that". Maybe it wasn't their primary motivation, but it's not reprehensible or disgusting from other fighters perspective, and like has been said, lots of fighters out there that would love to have Eddie's problems right now.

Yes, and that come more easily to certain people. Some people are extremely principled and will not back down from that.At the end of the day, as you said, he needs to make cash for his family, so I guess Bellator is counting on dragging this on to put more pressure on him, playing with the fact that he needs to be paid to survive.Which makes it even more dirty. If Bjorn truly thinks the "athletes" are the "stars" and not the company, why on earth is he fucking with a top athlete's career? That's reprehensible and disgusting.

That may be true but he fights for money to support his family.  Dana/Tito didnt get along but you dont have to, as long as the checks dont bounce you just show up and fight. eddie might not be happy, he might never be cool with Bjorn, he may never say nice things about him or even want to speak with him but that doesnt mean he cant show up and fight in Bellator.

They didn't pull any dirty tricks. Eddie was obligated to re-sign with Bellator if they matched the guaranteed terms of the UFC offer and they did. The only one not acting in good faith is Eddie Alvarez.

The biggest problem in this whole case is that the trust/relationship between Eddie and bellator (bjorn) has been damaged and isn't recoverable.Eddie had a good understanding with Bjorn but things went south after Eddie caught Bellator pulling dirty tricks when signing the contract. And now Eddie wants nothing to do with an immoral, dirty and lying POS that is the snake Bjorn Rebney. That's the biggest hurdle here. Hopefully Viacom doesn't tolerate such unethical behavior from Rebney and get rid of the sack of shit.

"Boxing tries to tie you up and make so you can't make any money and all this s---. We've never done that to anybody, ever."Wasn't Arlovski promised a title shot if he beats Werdum (which he did) but when he didn't accept UFC's offer and sign a new contract, they tied him up for a year before giving him he's last fight? He then left UFC and got a deal for over a million per fight at Affliction...
