Hall to now face Samman at UFC on FOX Sports 1

With an injury to Nick Ring, Ultimate Fighter veteran Urijah Hall will now square off against Josh Samman who was on the same season Hall:

Uriah Hall has a new opponent for his next UFC fight.

Nick Ring has dropped out of the Hall fight and has been replaced by Josh Samman for a middleweight fight on the main card of UFC on FOX Sports 1 on Aug. 17 in Boston. MMA Junkie was the first to report the fight change. UFC officials have confirmed the change on their website.

Hall will try to bounce back after losing the Ultimate Fighter 17 tournament final via split decision to Kelvin Gastelum at the TUF 17 Finale on April 13, 2013.

As much as I do actually agree with you, I think it's also a case of seeing what's right in front of you.  What I mean by that, is you're seeing and thinking Uriah is getting the better deal because it's happening first.   Truth is, Kelvin's next fight (iirc) is against Paulo Thiago on FS1: 2.  Now, I'll give you Uriah is fighting a little sooner, but both on FS1 so no real difference there.  The difference is, Kelvin's fighting a guy who is just dropping out of the top 10 in the division, compared to Uriah fighting a guy coming out of TUF with one win over another TUFer.  Uriah's fighting to stay in the UFC, Kelvin's fighting for a possible top 10 spot if he puts on a good performance.   I think Kelvin fucked up alot of plans which is why I really like him.  He surprised the shit out of alot of people, including myself, and I'm really looking forward to what this incredibly young and hungry dude can do in the UFC.  Point is, (imo) Kelvin's got the much better fight.

I don't think it's wise matchmaking. The UFC clearly wanted Hall to win TUF just like they wanted Ricci to beat Smith. Which was why Ricci got to fight on a GSP PPV and Smith fought on FX prelims in their respective bouts following TUF. Here we are and I've no clue when Kelvin is fighting again yet the guy the UFC wanted is getting a prime slot. The problem is that Samman is no easy out. Hall loses and he is 0-2 in the UFC and the narrative of selling him as the new scary guy becomes impossible. I think if they want Hall (and they do) they should have given him an easier foe to get crushed in the first so they can get back to selling the monster. Samman could win and that makes for an ugly fight and leaves Hall no longer able to be pushed as a knockout machine you just have to see. Very risky move.
