Ken Shamrock vs. Ian Freeman is off, fighter, promotion exchange blame

by Jack Brown |

Jack Brown had the opportunity to speak with UFC Hall of Famer, Ken Shamrock, earlier this evening for an interview, and according to Ken, his upcoming fight with Ian Freeman is off.

Jack Brown: You are next scheduled to fight fellow MMA veteran, Ian Freeman, on July 27th, at UCFC 6, in England.  This will be your first MMA fight in two and a half years.  How did this matchup come about, what do you think about your opponent, and how will it be to have your nephew, Jeff Shamrock, fighting on the same card?

Ken Shamrock: Well that fight's not happening.  Unfortunately, like we just got done talking about promoters and things of that nature, that is exactly what happened.  We put a contract together and we made a deal.  They came back to me, probably after about four weeks, with the contract that we agreed upon and said that, "We don't want to do that contract."  Ha-ha.  I was just like, "Wait a minute.  What did you say?"  It's like I'm from another world sometimes.  It's like, "You made a deal, but you don't want it no more.  You want to pay me less.  Okay.  That sounds great.  Let's just do it then."

So that's the stuff that I have to run into now that I'm kind of independent and doing my own thing.  A lot of times I run into that, where people, what they do, which is what they're doing on this, they put my name on the card.  They try to sell tickets as much as they can.  Then they'll come back and say, "Well, listen, we can't pay you this much," and think that I'm going to go ahead and fight.  Even if I don't fight, they've already got those ticket sales and they'll just blame it on me.  They'll say, "Shamrock is a no-show."

Now I've got my work cut out for me to get that out there so that I can let people know that this was negotiated a long time ago, and these guys are in breach of contract, and they're the ones not holding up their end of the bargain.  So, like I said, now I have to do my due diligence to let my fans and other people realize that, hey, this is the kind of stuff that goes on.  Most of the time I wouldn't do that, but in this situation they keep selling tickets with me supposedly going to be there to fight.  Then when I don't show, they're going to blame it on me.

JB: Wow.  This hasn't been officially announced though, right?  I couldn't find that.  I specifically looked to make sure you were still on the card, and I couldn't find anything saying that you weren't.

KS: No.  There's no advertising it.  They have twenty-five days of breach of contract as of today.  So I was like, "What's going on?  You've announced that I'm still fighting.  You know I'm not fighting.  You're still telling the people that I'm fighting.  And you're in breach of this contract.”

JB: Is your nephew, Jeff, still fighting on that same card?

KS: No. No. No.  There's no way that I'd send him.  England, they don't have a sanctioning body so that's the reason why we've done this escrow, where they put the money into escrow.  We know that when we get to England these contracts aren't valid because there's no sanctioning body.  So these contracts are not legal.  So that's why we did it that way, and now they're, which we didn't think they would do because it's stupid business, but they're trying to pull that now.

Shamrock fight is off - A replacement is found!

Well, everyone including myself, knew this fight was too good to be true as we know what a coward Shamrock is.

Not only is Shamrock a coward but he's also a thief. He accepted the fight, demanded $5,000 upfront as a deposit of trust, of which was sent, and now refuses to return the money.

Not only has he demanded that money up front but also ask for his purse and ticket deal to be paid "before" he fights and this money to be sent to an American bank.

Shamrock you are f---ing delusional? What promoter pays a fighter before he fights and with your track record of being a bum, I'm not surprised the promoter said no.

UCFC bent over backwards to stick to your Diva demands but you bitched about everything. Even to the fact that they were advertising your name to sell tickets. Thats what every show in the world does dumb F---. The fight was confirmed, and you signed and made a video signing the contract. Idiot.

You know I would have hurt you bad but you had to string everyone along after your WWE speech about wanting to fight me, so you had to play along with it. Now your making excuses saying the promoters are in breach of contract. Bulls---. You had no intentions of fighting me. Your a fake, a crook and a liar. You even made an interview about not fighting me yesterday "without" telling the promotion you pulled out. That just shows what a professional knob you are.

Your over and I hope the rest of the world see this and realise you've lost the plot, your an idiot and I hope your never hired for anything again.

As far as I'm concerned, I have been training hard and ready to fight anyone. A replacement is confirmed and will be announced very soon. A fighter a lot tougher than Spamcock, but hey, I'm here to fight. Win or lose that's what I do.

I'm here to please My fans, not to let them down.

See you guys July 27th, Doncaster.

You don't know how lucky you are Shamrock.
Like my dad used to say "A coward is a coward, no matter you look at it"

The Machine is BACK !

The UCFC has released an official statement, putting the blame on Shamrock.

A UCFC spokesman said: “We can confirm that Ken Shamrock will not be appearing on the Legends of MMA show.

“He has claimed we are in breach of contract – which is not the case. He has alleged that the reason he does not want to fight on the show is due to the UCFC not wanting to pay him. This is factually incorrect.

“Ken had made a Twitter tweet on June 4th saying he was going to pull out of the fight. When the UCFC contacted him he told us that this was because he could not have three of his fighters on the card. He claimed this was a breach of contract.

“We never guaranteed we would have these fighters on the card and it doesn’t appear anywhere in his contract.

“As a goodwill gesture we repeatedly asked him to tweet a positive post about the show but he failed to respond.

“He has claimed he told us categorically that he would not be coming to the UK to face Ian “The Machine” Freeman. Again that is factually incorrect. His team were negotiating and wanting to change the contract right up until July 2nd. If Ken had categorically said he definitely was not fighting why was his team still in talks up to that point?

“Our legal team advised us that no money should be paid directly by escrow to Ken in the USA. This was because we could not guarantee he would actually turn up and recovering the money for his breach of contract would be prohibitive in the USA. Instead, as a UK company, we offered to pay the cash into an UK escrow account which Ken could have transferred to the States after the show. The UCFC agreed to this measure even though it was not part of his contract.

“Ken claims that we have been selling tickets on the back of his name knowing he had decided not to fight. Again this is not supported by the facts. Although we suspected he was looking to withdraw from the card, his team were telling us he would fight. So in good faith we continued promoting his contribution to the card. With emails we can substantiate this fact up to July 2nd.

“Up to Ken’s last interview on the July 3rd no mention of a sanctioning body has appeared in any emails or communications between both parties.

He said that the contracts are not valid in the UK because there is no sanctioning body. Contracts are legal documents and are covered by civil law in the UK and not sanctioning bodies. Why did he sign the contract in the first place if this was a major concern?

“Although we tried to get Ken to fight he decided to retire from card. We wish him all the best in his future fights. We are now focusing on the show and this chapter is now closed for us.”

The UCFC will be revealing the new opponent for Ian “The Machine” Freeman very shortly along with some other updates.

The event will see top UK rapper Professor Green head line the music acts which also includes The Sunshine Underground and Jay Mya.

Yup. Shammy was going in for a sliding ankle lock ala iminari. He got caught in the entrance of it and dropped but recovered nicely soon as his back hit and finished a nice single leg landing in top position then almost finishing with a tight heel hook against a prime rich Franklin. This was Richs breakthrough fight.

Good thing for Ken he didn't fight, as he would've likely been killed.

It was in a big football stadium that had four stands. Only one of the stands was in use, and the one you can see behind was one of the ones not in use. The attendance wasn't great, but there was at least some people there!
