GSP: Silva still the greatest fighter of all-time

Before UFC 162, Georges St-Pierre was adamant that Chris Weidman would defeat Anderson Silva, however even he was suprised at how Weidman finished Silva. Despite the convincing loss to Weidman, St-Pierre still does believe that Silva is the greatest fighter of all time:

"I predicted Chris Weidman would win but I didn't think he'd win the way he did," St-Pierre told "I thought he would win with ground and pound or some kind of submission but he won with a beautiful knockout standing up. "But I think Silva just got caught. I still think he's the best in the world."

St-Pierre went on to pay Silva the ultimate compliment.

"You always recognize a great champion by how they come back from a loss and I know Silva came back from a loss and adversity before. He's the greatest of all time for sure."

GSP has been and always will be the classiest guy in the sport , next to Fedor.

GSP's athleticicsm, when mixed in with the current unified rules of MMA, are very difficult to stop. While he isn't an ace at any one particular thing apart from a double-leg, he is a decent enough boxer to exploit those with not much boxing training, and his apprehension of wrestling in such a short time favors him, especially with a rule system that awards rounds to those in top position landing enough short elbows and strikes to keep the referee from standing the fight up.I agree that stopping the TD is the first concern, but the way GSP prepares for a fight by exploiting his opponent's weaknesses while never truly showcasing his own strengths and never getting close to a finish will be hard to defeat. Whoever ends up beating GSP will need to be a patient fighter with awesome stamina, have a damn good sprawl and ability to get up from his back, and have a decent boxing game.It won't be Hendricks, but I think Rory could be the one.

It's this simple. If you fight Ronda Rousey you train to defend an arm bar. If you fight a Diaz you try to learn  their unorthadox style. If you fight a Gracie you train sub defense. If you fight Georges, you try to stop the takedown. You train for their strengths and your weakness. If you can't do that you don't bash the winner for his style, you blame the loser for not being able to stop it.

It's a business, brother. GSP is now an image, no longer a fighter. After witnessing first-hand on Saturday what happens to champions who take too many chances, my guess is that he gets more action-averse going forward. He'll still sell a shit ton of ppv's though, which is what his fans will argue (stupidly), as he destroys any potential attraction of new new fans to the sport. What makes the UFC money now will bankrupt them in the long run.

Agreed. He is the only champ that I don't bother watching fight anymore. It drives me insane. IMO he is the most complete fighter in the game and most people at 170 wouldn't be able to hang with him standing. He is just in and out of range so fast. So the fact that he just wants to blanket and cuddle for 25 minutes kills me.

GSP is such an incredible fighter but I can't stand him for some reason. That article gave me a new respect for him though. Very cool.
