On the morning of October 5, 2012, Jeremy Stephens was arrested by the Minneapolis Police Department in relation to an out-of-state felony charge. The arrest forced the cancellation of a fight scheduled later that same day with Yves Edwards at UFC on FX 5.
The arrest was for a fight in Iowa that involved two of Stephen's friends, one of whom was arrested on the night of the incident. Stephens was interviewed that night; a warrant for his arrest was issued at some later date.
Stephens has adamantly maintained his innocence throughout.
According to manager Ryan Hass, county prosecutors offered Stephens a number of plea deals that would include no jail time, but the fighter refused, instead opting to have his day in court.
On the first day of the trial, prosecutors dropped all assault and burglary charges. Stephens instead pled guilty to one count of misdemeanor disorderly conduct, and was sentenced to time already served and an unspecified fine.
