Jones has 'no wishes to fight Dan Henderson'

Jon Jones is next set to defend his UFC lightheavyweight title against Alexander Gustafson. Should he retain the title, there really is no clear cut number one contender. Last September Jones was scheduled to square off against Dan Henderson, but now has no real desire to fight Henderson:

"I have no wishes to fight Dan Henderson," Jones told MMAmania.com. "Dan Henderson is a guy who, you know, he's done a lot for this sport already, he's a lot older. I think he's a guy a lot of people would expect me to beat anyways. So I have no big dreams of fighting Dan Henderson."

Jones was pegged a massive favorite over Henderson prior to UFC 151, and since then he has only improved by gaining experience with title defenses against Vitor Belfort and Chael Sonnen.

Up next on Jones' agenda is a title defense against top contender Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 165 on Sept. 21, 2013. "Bones" views Gustafsson as a major threat due to his physical size, skills and youth. Those are the type of challenges Jones is seeking -- not a match up with a 42-year-old who he feels is on the back end of his career.

"[Henderson's] last fight with Rashad Evans you could really see him starting to slow down," Jones said. "So fighting him I don't think really proves much."

With Henderson having lost his last two bouts it is very unlikely that we will see him square off with Jones in the near future. It would have been an awesome fight had it originally happened and it's too bad we will probably never see it.

"Let's get one thing straight right now - nobody "wishes" to fight Dan Henderson. The man is a fucking savage in the cage, who can shatter your jaw - and your confidence - with a single shot. The problem is not that Dan isn't a top contender anymore. The problem is people's perceptions:- If you beat Dan, everyone will say "yeah, but all you did is beat an old man".- If you lose to Dan, everyone will say "you just lost to an old man."If I had to guess, I'd say that Jones doesn't really want to fight anyone who can put real pressure on him."Dan wouldn't put pressure on him. There's no way Jones would let him get close enough. Hendo doesn't possess the technical prowess striking to get past Jon's reach. I wish he did, but it isn't so.

Jones has a couple good fights lined up, first against Gusto and then GloverI'm still hoping that Phil Davis pulls it together, as he could potentially give Jones a good scrap

Big Hendo fan and cant stand jones, but hes got a valid point. My only issue is Jones has already beaten a good portion of the top 10 as it is. Assuming he beats Gustaffson and then Glover, theres really no more competition for him to face. I mean at the pace hes going, in another 2 years or so, he will have cleaned out the top 10.

He is right, he destroys Hendo easily.

It's weak in the sense that a lot of the big names got old. There's still really good fighters they just haven't established themselves as much

While you are not wrong its getting to the point where Jon Jones is the best LHW the sport has ever seen. Given that, it becomes an effort of the rest of LHWs to be a part of HIS record.Yeah it sounds arrogant but its also reality. Kid is a monster and has no reason to pursue anyone in his division. Rather the best fighters in the world have to sweat for a chance to get beaten up by him.

Who cares if he's top 5 ever? This is a "what have you done for me lately" sport, and Henderson has lost lately. Chael getting a shot was bad enough, Hendo shouldn't even be mentioned right now.
