Lombard: UFC wanted me to drop to welterweight

Hector Lombard recently revealed that he would be dropping to the welterweight division to fight Nate Marquardt. The decision, however, was not his he revealed on today's edition of the MMA Hour:

"That wasn't my plans, UFC wanted me to go to 170. They believe that I have, that I will perform better at 170 than 185. I have to do what the bosses say you know. Can't argue with the bosses. If it were up to me, I would have stayed at 185. I have to be disciplined and I have to do what they want me to do. I've been training hard and I think I will be able to make it and I will be able to perform better that way. "That wasn't my plans, UFC wanted me to go to 170."

This. With a few tweaks Lombard could be a serious force at 170 or 185. (Assuming the cut to 170 goes well)

He came in on a huge wave and has done nothing. This to me shows the level of competition he faced was sub par when you cant beat Tim B. He should of destroyed Tim if he is at the level everyone "thinks" he's on. Not taking anything from Tim but he wouldn't be near top ten if the MW division was as deep as say the LW,MW or even HW.UFC is on a totally different level. Thankfully, the UFC has signed 90% of the, "I wish they were in the UFC" guys. None of them have lived up to the hype. Not Cormier, Sheilds, Mayham, Diaz(who I am personally distraught about)Rockhold etc etc etc. Especially not Lombard. I mean you have Tim Kennedy fighting amateurs(by UFC standards), going 3 rounds with no finish. Didn't he fight for the SF belt twice? We all know what happened to their champ when Vitor got his feet on him. My view is that until these fighters start performing the way they did when they were busting up cans and nobody's, the rest is all smoke and mirrors.Just curious how you determined that he is top 3 in any weight class he fights in?

Lombard has a ton of potential. A better gas tank and fighting strategy from his team and he is definitely top 3 in any weight class

I hope he makes 170 alright. Dropping some muscle will make him more explosive consistantly.

His UFC record should be 2-1 right now, but got screwed by the judges in his debut...in which he could've performed better, no question. For what it's worth, I think he should've stayed at MW, but that said, I'm curious to see what he does at 170.In terms of whether he's worth the money he's being paid, I would say that if fighters have to live with the contracts they sign - good or bad - then the same goes for the UFC. Lombard's pay is still a drop in the bucket compared to what ZUFFA is making.

I feel like he beat Boatch and was on the cusp of finishing Okami but lacked the gas tank.Hope he improves because I like watching him fight.
