Rousey 'honored' to co-main Weidman/Silva rematch PPV

The Ronda Rousey vs. Miesha Tate rematch was scheduled to be the main event of UFC 168, that was until UFC President Dana White announced that the biggest rematch in UFC history would also take place on the card. With Anderson Silva vs. Chris Weidman in the main event slot, Rousey vs. Tate will now co-main event, a place Rousey is more than happy to be in:

"I'm super stoked about being on the same card as Anderson Silva and Chris Weidman," Rousey told USA TODAY Sports. "It'll alleviate some of the promotional stress and pressure because there'll be more of us working to promote this big card."

"Their fight may very well be the fight of the year, maybe even in the history of the company, and I think it's an honor to be a part of that," Rousey said.

Dana admitted he tried to get Gina.  When she left mma it was back to "never".  You're right about the weight, that was also probably an issue.  The UFC can't have her as champ if there's a high risk she'll miss weight every second fight.  Must be why they didn't grab her.  Thanks for making my point. And lol no, the women won't outdraw the lower weight men.  The uniqueness of female fights doesn't help Invicta outdraw them now, despite a much lower ppv price.  Ronda, the Brock Lesnar of wmma, got only 400-500k buys with more mainstream media attention than almost any fighter in UFC history.  Those aren't bad numbers, they're just not good by UFC star standards. Will she even be able to match those numbers when she fights a second time and the media doesn't cover it because a woman in the UFC is a story that they've already told?  Maybe.  Maybe not.   Women just don't really draw as fighters.  Boxing has already learned that lesson.  Why the UFC seems intent on relearning it I don't know.

Most likely went from 600k buys to 1.2-1.4 million buys which made her millions, not tens of thousands. Yeah I'd be happy if I was her also.

If it is just all about looks, why didn't Dana sign Gina Carano when he had the chance after EliteXC folded?Because there was no depth in her weight division. In fact, she really didn't have a weight division at the time because of her problems missing weight. Strikeforce invented their women's 145lb title to accommodate Gina and Cyborg at the time.Notice how you didn't even bother to address that all the men's weight divisions under welterweight are doing horrible numbers on PPV. The only thing that would happen if Ronda lost is that the women's division would be right along side the other lower weight divisions in terms of drawing money. The women even still might draw higher without Ronda on top than the other lower weight classes because of the uniqueness of female fights.

"If Dana wanted to protect cash cows, he wouldn't book fights like Cain vs Brock." He doesn't seem to know the game as well as you think.  Remember, he really thought Brock was gunna destroy Overeem. "Besides, at this point WMMA has moved beyond Ronda losing being a major detriment. Especially since women are on TUF now and there is a rumor the UFC is considering a female strawweight division." Really hasn't.  If Ronda loses, wmma takes a major step down to the prelims.  They might even just drop it if nobody hot comes along and Ronda doesn't pan out again.  It is 100% about looks, to Zuffa.  Cyborg was ravaging chicks for a long time and Dana said "never".  Soon as Ronda comes along he magically changes his mind and gives her top billing against a chick with zero wins over opponents with winning records. He's praying she doesn't lose. It's sad actually.  Should have just let Invicta pick them all up.

Especially since women are on TUF now and there is a rumor the UFC is considering a female strawweight division.Sure the women's division wouldn't have the huge draw on top anymore, but how would that be any different than any of the other lower weight classes. Benson Henderson doesn't draw buys, Aldo doesn't draw buys, Mighty Mouse doesn't draw buys, and Barao doesn't draw buys.

It could only do her good. Actually a smart move to get attention on her, so many people are buying this card. I'm trying to get tickets when they go on sale.
