Cormier wants 205 title shot with Nelson win

34-year-old heavyweight Daniel Cormier is a man on mission. Just one day after the official announcement of his next fight, vs. Roy Nelson at UFC 166, Cormier appeared on FUEL TV's "UFC Tonight" with Ariel Helwani, and said following a win over 'Big Country' he wants a title shot, at 205.

Current UFC lightheavyweight champion Jon Jones fights Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 165 in September, and Cormier wants the winner. Many believe that will be Jon Jones.

Cormier will make the cut to 205 gingerly, as he had to miss his shot at Olympic gold in 2010 when his kidneys failed in Beijing. Cormier was cutting weight to compete at 211lbs. Cormier is well into a long, gradual cut, and hopes to walk around in the 220 range, at which point a drop to 205 would not be problematic.

What do you think UG? If Cormier beats Nelson, that would make 13 straight wins in a row at heavyweight, does that give him the right to as he put it "cut the line" at 205?

If he eats a lot of lolly pops he probably gives a good blow job. See how things can be related but not relevant to one another?

Dana was ready to give Cormier an immediate shot at the hw strap so why shouldnt he get a shot at 205? Jones and Cormier have beef so the build up will sell. I don't understand all the criticism Cormier got for the Mir fight. He didn't look to be at his best but he certainly didn't look like shit. He dominated Mir and won the fight easily.

Cormier is the BOSS.He beats everyone in the UFC not named Cain and Jones. He should beat Glover first before a failed title shot with Jones.TRUTH.

Hey smartass, since you mentioned it,I've got some shit your squishy little cheeks can smoke on...Cormier was the man a few months ago, now people are laughing at the notion of this fight when it was the exact fight a lot of people were asking for not too long ago.LHW division has been a joke for a while now as far as earned title shots due to Jones steamrolling the entire division and Zuffa pushing him to fight what seems like every 3 months. After Glover there is noone left...Cormier is a perfect fight and one of the last interesting matchups in the stale ass division that is 205.Ideally, I'd like to see Glover get the fight first but I'm not going to complain if Cormier gets the would be much better than some bunk-ass musical chair rematch that won't be remotely competitive. That is certain.

Think he should have at least 1 fight there first, unless your the champ/no 1 contender I don't think you should walk into a title fight in another division. That said I think he is the only person at lhw that gives Jones serious problems so ill be excited to see it.

Sorry dude... No. Again, it's amazing how many people find this issue to be so complicated and impossible to understand. He almost died, trying to cut WATER weight. But he has a good 30lbs of fat to drop, before he even has to worry about cutting water weight.

100% agreed and both of those are good matchups.

""lol The guy has only had one fight in the UFC and he thinks he can just get a title shot just like that?""He was promised an immediate title shot from Dana at 205 before he even got to the UFC so...
