Belfort uninterested in bout with Kennedy

Kennedy (16-4 MMA, 1-0 UFC) on Friday said on his official Twitter account that he would be heading to Brazil to fight Belfort (23-10 MMA, 12-6 UFC). The same night, UFC President Dana White said the bout was being put together.

But according to a report from Brazilian news outlet Globo.com, through its Combate site, Belfort was offered the fight by UFC owner Lorenzo Fertitta – but, through his wife and manager, Joana Prado, turned the bout down.

The reason, Prado told Combate, is that Belfort only wants to fight at middleweight if he's fighting for the title. With former champ Anderson Silva booked for a Dec. 28 rematch with new champion Chris Weidman, that means Belfort would rather wait for the winner of that fight.

Instead, Prado said, Belfort is willing to fight in the meantime – just not at middleweight unless a title is on the line.

"It doesn't make sense that Vitor, who is No. 1 in the rankings, should fight against No. 2, No. 6 or No. 10 in his weight class," Prado said. "His next fight in the middleweight class will be against the winner of Chris Weidman vs. Anderson Silva. If the UFC wishes him to fight in any class above middleweight, we are at their disposal. It can be anyone, Tim Kennedy, even Roy Nelson, but it has to be at 205 pounds or heavyweight – he'll even fight as a heavyweight. Vitor wants to fight, but in his weight class, only if for the belt."

Who has Belfort beaten at MW?  Bisping?  Rockhold?  That is not championship contention fights. Tim Kennedy is the real deal and it is only logical that the #1 and #2 fight for the chance for the big prize. Sounds like Belfort just wants another easy title run.

Vitor was #2 behind ONLY Anderson Silva BEFORE the Bisping fight on EVERY MMA Site and ranking system.Had Bisping won, he would've got Anderson.Had Vitor won, he still doesn't get the rematch .He did, and is still #1, while Weidman sits at #8'ish.Then Vitor fights Rockhold, who ALSO would've likely been given the winner of Anderson/Weidman had he won, but he got KTFO as well.During this time, Weidman was catapulted to #1 for the UFC's sake on every website. So Anderson fought out of his division, basically a retiree, then gets KO'd cold by a good guy(but relative nobody) who was considered another "gimme" for Andy, while Vitor KO'd the 2 future contenders, and now he gets another future contender?Andy got the immediate rematch because Vitor is the scarier rematch AND he can be argued to deserve it after being unbeaten in the UFC.The UFC doesn't want Vitor wearing the belt after much consideration.Andy has no visible TRT issues, nor does Weidman who will fall either during or soon after Silva II, while Silva retires in the greatest ceremony in 'UFC history', regardless of outcome.I'd pay to be wrong on this.

Other than Anderson Silva, who would the UFC say the #1 contender is?

Vitor is the number one contender according to Vitor, not the UFC.If he fights Kennedy at catch weight and gets beat, does he think he still deserves a middle weight tittle fight?

If he thinks he deserves a shot more than Anderson, he's crazy. Plus, why not make some money while you're waiting if you're really that confident that you are the best?

Belfort should be grateful he's getting looked after by getting a steady string of fights in brazil where he can use his TRT thing
