Travis Browne KOs Overeem in first round

The UFC Fight Night 26 main event features a heavyweight bout between Alistair Overeem and Travis Browne and takes place at the TD Garden in Boston, MA.

If this MMA thing doesn't work out, Travis Browne might want to take up work as an NFL punter.

In the final minute of a brutal, back-and-forth heavyweight showdown, the Jackson's MMA fighter from Hawaii cued up a picture-perfect left kick which landed flush on Alistair Overeem's jaw.

Several right hands later, referee Mario Yamasaki stopped the bout at TD Garden at 4:08 of the first round.

IMO he would have won if he stopped trying to used his fists and kneed him in those ribs a'la gsp. So much more fights would be stoppages if they stopped trying to use fists on the ground on a turtled opponent.

don't be silly now. KOing brock lesnar and thoroughly dominating two top heavyweights up until flash KO losses doesn't make him unworthy of fighting in the UFC, it just means he's not the very best. he's still better at fighting than bigfoot and probably travis browne.this talk of cutting overeem is dumb - not only is he an awesome specimen who looks great on posters and an exceptionally good fighter, the hw division is shallow and he's a very famous guy

My condolences to all the Reem fans...just does go on. Re: Illegal knee, I saw at least 1 and possibly 2 thrown by Reem when Hapa was against the cage on one knee. Re: No stoppage against Browne, the ref was talking to him all the time, telling him to get out, do something, make a move, etc...and Browne continued to respond, which means he's alert and intelligently defending himself. He obviously was not done, as evidenced by what happens next. Re: Early stoppage against Reem, he takes a front kick to the face and goes down, takes 2 more brutal hammerfists causing his eyes to roll back into his head, causing the ref to jump in and save him. Where's the early stoppage?

Drives me crazy that he changed his name to The Reem from Demolition man. He had one of the greatest nocknames of all time.
