Rafael Dos Anjos earns dominant decision over Donald Cerrone

The Ultimate Fight Night 27 co-main event featured a lightweight bout between perennial top five fighter Donald Cerrone and Rafael Dos Anjos.

The frame opened as many expected. Both fighters used strong head movement and footwork to potshot the other, but it wasn't until a right hook from dos Anjos that cracked Cerrone that things got interesting. The Brazilian followed Cerrone to the mat, avoided the American's best submission attempts, controlled top position and landed a series of hard elbows while Cerrone could only defend underneath.

Cerrone changed things up in the second, but only after it appeared round two would mirror round one. Cerrone eventually scored a trip takedown, but was able to do much with it. With about 45 seconds left in the frame, dos Anjos turned the tables and put the American on his back as he tried to recapture what he earned at the end of the first frame.

Donald looked off tonight, his head seemed elsewhere. His focus and fire didnt seem to be there, also he seems to perform a lot better in 5 rounders for some reason.

Not saying RDA wouldn't beat a focused and top form Cerrone. RDA is clearly turning into a elite 155er. But Donald wasn't/hasn't been his normal self, clearly battling something. Just didn't have the killer instinct this fight. Sucks he's really great to watch when he's fighting at his best.

Dos Anjos is a beast plain and simple. The darkhorse of the division, all these years. Hard hitting MT guy, BJJ under Gordo, and ever improving wrestling. Just needs to work on his cardio. It has nothing to do with Cerrone being on poor form. Funny thing is nobody ever gives RDA a chance. Nobody gave him a chance against G Sot, Shalorus, Bocek. Dunham fight was a gifted decision though.

I thought the same thing. I've never seen him look so disinterested during a fight.

Cerrone seems to be a mental midget.

Yeah I dunno. Even when Nate was lighting him up he looked more awake than that third round. Grats to RDA though, lots of badass matchups now that he's this far up the ladder.

Nope. It's the level of competition. He looks great against medocre guys.  He's not an Anderson or Jon, who can make the elite guys look like kids.
