The UFC 164 main event featured a lightweight title bout between champion Benson Henderson and challenger Anthony Pettis and took place in Milwaukee, WI.

Anthony Pettis waited for his shot at a UFC title. And waited. And waited. Sometimes it seemed like it was never going to happen.

But Pettis' perseverance finally paid off on Saturday night. Fighting in front of his hometown fans at Milwaukee's Bradley Center, Pettis defeated Benson Henderson to win the UFC lightweight championship at UFC 164. A verbal submission via armbar at 4:31 of the first round did the trick.

I see nothing wrong with what he said.  Falling into a submission, has nothing to do Bendo's improvement.  Whether or not he would lose to Mendes is a good discussion to have.  Pettis couldn't control Guida, but Mendes walked through him. None of this matters until the issue with Aldo is settled, but I see Mendes as having rights to the title shot.

Happy to see another latino champion in Anthony Pettis. I don't see him losing that belt for years.

It'd be pretty cool to be a kid who can say "my Tae Kwon Do instructor is the UFC LW champion."

"benson had no shot of escaping once it was locked"   ------------------------- That's what I said nimrod.  Jeesh, you just pointed out that you were a white belt and now we see lack reading comprehension as well.

Yes. Pettis owns a TKD school with his brother also.

As a white belt I'd say that you're wrong. Seriously though, benson had no shot of escaping once it was locked, it's not like a new BB thinks they're gonna get caught sleeping like that.

That's a bunch of crap.  Bendo let his emotions get the best of him.  He's got a Black Belt in BJJ, he should have seen that coming. The key to any counter/defense is not to react after the submission takes hold, but before.
