Pete Spratt to appeal loss, hopes for Means rematch

Following a career that began in the late 90s, Pete Spratt announced his retirement from mixed martial arts last weekend, at the age of 42. The announcement followed a KO loss to Tim Means at Legacy FC 23.

Spratt fought in the UFC over a decade ago, going 3-6, and has fought for numerous promotions, including Legacy FC, MFC, Strikeforce, and HDNet Fights.

He holds wins over Robbie Lawler, Rich Clementi, and TJ Waldburger in a career that included facing the likes of GSP, Matt Serra, and Josh Koscheck. Always trying to finish, of Spratt's 25 wins, 22 were by submission or KO.

And he may get just one more. In an interview with MMAJunkie, Spratt revealed he is appealing the loss, and hopes for a rematch with Means.

"And if not, I'm going to sit back and coach my guys," said Spratt.

Upon review of the footage, Spratt believes that the strike was to the back of the head.

"I'm going to file an appeal with the commission to have them review the fight to see whether they deemed that I was fouled or not," he said. "I'm willing to accept whatever the commission decides, but I definitely want them to look at it because over the course of the past few days, I had people calling me and texting me saying that was an illegal shot.

"It's borderline foul, borderline no foul. But I'll let the commission determine that, and I'll live with whatever they say."

It's close, but I think it's a legal shot. The first one was more of a forearm than an elbow, and the forearm hit him right on the ear.But I could be mistaken.

100% illegal blow. He achieved the knockout with a behind the head blow. I would take it a step further , as Means should be suspended - This is assault. Maybe if fighters were charged with assault then they would think twice of illegal blows. Sickening display of sportsmanship from means. Fedor would never have done that , that is for sure.

Looked like a clean elbow to me. No one likes to go out on a loss but trying to get that overturned on what is at most a borderline blow is silly.
