White: Bellator has no value whatsoever, contracts are insane

The UFC is the founding promotion in modern mixed martial arts. In the 20 year history of the world's fastest growing sport, historically speaking, the UFC has either bought or beaten each of its notable competitors, with the latest trend being beating over buying.
WFA - Bought
Pride - Bought
WEC - Bought
ProElite XC - Beaten
IFL - Beaten
Affliction - Beaten
Strikeforce - Bought

The current #1 challenger in MMA to the UFC is the Viacom-owned Bellator Fighting Championship. Earlier this year, Bellator founder and CEO Bjorn Rebney was asked by Fight Hub TV's Marcos Villegas whether he would consider selling to the UFC at some point.

"Never in a million years would I sell Bellator MMA to the UFC," said Rebney.

The odds of the UFC some day buying Bellator plummeted further still - at the UFC 168 media day on Sunday, UFC president Dana White said the company has no value.

"There's nothing there," said White to MMAFighting. "If you look at any other company we ended up buying in the past, there was value. There's no value to that company whatsoever."

"If you look at Pride, look at all the contracts we got from Pride, all the guys that came over. Look at Pride’s library. Amazing library, with some of the most talented fighters of all times. When we bought WFA, we bought it because Rampage had a contract with them. When we bought Strikeforce, we bought their library. Just the fights we had with Nick Diaz alone were worth buying that company."

White said further that Bellator fighters are "screwed" by their contracts.

"The way that they do their deals, their guys are screwed," said White. "Those guys can't go out and test the fair market. They can't do anything."

"Anybody who would sign a contract with them is insane."

Spike has its replacement for UFC, with tournaments and crazy Russians to boot. Why would they sell to the UFC?Why would the UFC buy and have programming on FOX and Spike? FOX probably would not like that.

Weird to see the Garv get analytical. He left out TUF, though, which is probably the archetype example of who pulls the big strings.

Even if it's true, what is the value of Bellator? I doubt it's the contracts since the UFC is actively trying to cut the number of fighters down as it is. They already have a better tv deal with a bigger media company than Viacom. There haven't been that many fights with notable fighters so their video library isn't worth much. The ring card girls? Even getting rid of them for competitions sake doesn't help them since it's not a viable alternative for top level fighters to begin with. Their contracts do make it difficult to poach young talent, but how many coveted young fighters do they have?

A six figure contract, that's the only way it gets done.

Promoters lie through their teeth though.  If Bellator ever goes on sale Zuffa will try and purchase their company behind the scenes while pretending the company is worthless to the public. Dana was calling Fedor a can crusher and a guy who sucks while secretly trying to purchase him behind the scenes. He said Tito sucks but then signed a deal with him. Josh Barnett was a roider and he didnt want a guy like that in the UFC, and now there he is. UFC wont have women fighting, now theres women. Media asked if Chuck Liddell is fighting Rich Franklin instead of Tito, Dana said no, then said he lied to protect TUF. I wouldnt hold Dana's word as gospel. Hes going to BS to protect his company. Theres vested interest. Dude is a salesman for his product.

Smh, okami already beat their me champ. King mo is an Olympic wrestler who was standing there like an idiot with his hands down and even so up until the unorthodox ko he was handling newton, I expect his to take him down and thrash him next time. And I wasn't just saying mo. Bellators lhw picture is rampage vs mo. Fact. Hw Kongo I'm not sure about, but I still think he will get the belt atleast for a short while. Fitch losing in wsof doesn't mean anything for bellator he would still grind his way through their ww division fact. Him and askren would be a good match up but I think Fitch would get the nod, and you mentioned maia, who yes rag dolled Fitch. Maia would absolutely rape askren on the ground lets he real here. Btw I think Douglas Lima is an absolute beast who would give Fitch and any other ww on the planet some problems.

Chris27 - Bellators biggest fighters on the roster are two washed up former UFC legends.  how can one be a former legend? either you're a legend or you aren't are you noob enough to pretend you dont know what tito and rampage meant to mma? hopefuly you meant to say former champions
