UFC signs bantamweight 'Pitbull' Correia

MMA does not lack for fighters nicknamed 'Pitbull' but the UFC's most recent fighter is not quite like the others. Tatame is reported that undefeated Brazilian bantamweight Bethe 'Pitbull' Correia, 30, is the latest addition to the UFC women's roster.

Bethe Correia, student of the brothers Patrick and Patricky Pitbull, is the latest Brazilian to sign a contract with the UFC . The news was anounced by the fighters manage, Wallid Ismail, on the program Ring Transamerica.

The athlete Pitbull Brothers, who are unbeaten after six fights in MMA, joins Amanda Nunes and Jessica Bate Estaca, which were the first Brazilian female fighters to sign with the UFC.

Bethe Correia is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Erica Paes, the only athlete to defeat Cris Cyborg, at Jungle Fight 54. Correia still has no date and no opponent for his UFC debut.

That sounds rather paranoid. Up to the Albu signing he'd pretty exclusively signed the best talent available outside of leaving Invicta a few scraps (and he apparently tried to sign Nakamoto so who knows if even that's true). On top of that Shelby did a far better job with the Strikeforce divisions than his predecessor Rich Chou, and one of the very few times I've ever seen him make any MMA-related tweets was to pay Joanne Calderwood a huge compliment. The only truly wonkish signing he's made so far is Albu, and that may have had as much to do with her manager and the clients she shared with him as anything else. I really do not get any sort of vibe that he is against the women's division, and I don't see how that could be anything but negative for his career if he were.

She's a natural Flyweight and none of her wins were over top opponents (I suppose Erica Paes could be considered unknown quality at best). However she's a much more solid signing than Aleksandra Albu, and would be a totally reasonable addition to a Women's Flyweight division. If they need more women for Brazil cards I suppose she might work out. She could fight Albu or the loser of Andrade/Sexton. Or maybe Julie Kedzie, idk.
