Megumi Fujii retires following controversial loss at VTJ 3rd

The greatest female fight in MMA history, Megumi “Mega Megu” Fujii, 39, fought for the last time at Vale Tudo Japan 3rd on October 5th in Tokyo. Her opponent was former Bellator rival Jessica “Jag” Aguilar, in a rematch.

Fujii lost via doctor stoppage between the second and third rounds, due to damage to her eye sustained by two accidental pokes. The eye pokes required a break in the action of over 15 mins. Fujii opted to continue, but eventually the damage was too much.

Both fighters were disappointed with the fight result; Aguilar stated after the match that she did not feel that she deserved a win.

The first fight between the pair was at Bellator 69 inn May 2012, with Aguilar winning by a controversial Unanimous Decision.

Fujii’s career now ends with 26 wins, two controversial decision losses, and loss via doctor stoppage due to accidental eye pokes. She was at the top of the women's pound for pound rankings for many years, prior to the loss to Aguillar in 2010.

Aguilar remains the best 115-pound women in the world, with a winning streak that now extends to seven.

Definitely. He's done a hell of a job. Also I was very impressed by VTJ's take on MMA. It may not have had the pagentry of a PRIDE event, but the sports-oriented part was there and the talent was there and people were leaving absolutely everything in the cage. Caol Uno's come-from-behind win after he fought his heart out was particularly great and the highlight of the night for me, and Campuzano/Tokoro was also fabulous. I'd definitely like to see them more frequently. 'Twas a very fun grass roots show.

I was like oh good intermission, I'll just close my eyes for a secon....... 9am. Just saw the Megumi fight. Terrible way to go out, clear NC. So that makes 3 bullshit losses on her record now. You could tell Aguilar truly felt bad but damn, keep those fingers closed. Megumi deserved a more clear cut end to her career. Hoping to see vid of Uno-Romero and Tokoro-Campuzano, but it sounds like they were the great fights I thought they'd be. Caol Uno is a beast. Taking out Team Alpha Males up and comers one by one. Thank you again KeijiKadekawa
