Rousimar Palhares camp denies malice

Whatever issues Rousimar Palhares has, his manager Alex Davis is universally respected as a deeply principled figure in the sport. In an interview with MMAJunkie, Davis acknowledged the heel hook was held too long Wednesday night in Brazil vs. Mike Pierce, but avered that there was no ill will.

"We have talked about it at length," Davis today told "The one thing I can certify is that Rousimar does not hold on to a sub out of malice. It's unconscious, a mix of adrenaline and years of being conditioned to not let go."

"I can attest to the fact that Rousimar is a very simple, humble and well-meaning person. This is not malice but instinct, nature of the beast.

"That said, we need to keep on working on it. Rousimar used to hurt people in training, but he has become very controlled now. Now we need to work on the fights, work on keeping him conscious rather than just automatic."

"It might be hard for people to understand that don't know Rousimar personally, but I'm telling you, he holds on out of instinct. He only realizes it afterward."

"These guys are in the zone. To me, it's pure instinct.'

"He's perplexed. He doesn't really grasp it. He doesn't really understand that he's doing something overly wrong. He doesn't get it."

"It's very sad for me. I understand the UFC's perspective. They have to do what's in their best interest. I get Dana White's perspective. I think it was a bit radical, but he has done this before."

"First of all, we're going to figure out what the problem is. This kid is not a mean kid. Everyone who is with him loves him to pieces.

"We're going to try to figure out why this happens. Why does this kid do this s---? Why doesn't he just stop?"

^ Perfect logic there, lol. If every other fighter can show restraint and not be a tryhard boner that gets off on being the scary leglock dude, Paul Harris can too.

Such b.s. from the ufc. And so much fighter bashing in this thread. If you don't want people with fucked up knees in the ufc, ban the techniques. Simple as that.

It only takes one second to wreck someone's knee. What Gomi did to alveredo is excessive GnP after a fight. I understand a punch or two being thrown due to inertia and not knowing the fighter is out. Totally different story when someone is verbally yelling tap and physically tapping your leg. There is a thin gray line that does occasionally get crossed in regards to fighters getting a hit or two in on an unconscious opponent. But we rarely see the same person breaking this rule time and time again. Your comparing apples to oranges by raising that argument.

It is my opinion that PH was not INTENTIONALLY holding that sub once the ref called the fight. You of all posters have no grounds to call anyone else a troll. Its all you are known for around here and have had entire threads made by posters to have you banned for trolling. Grow up and try to actually discuss the topic. Show some proof there was malice. Show some proof he was intentionally trying to ignore the ref and mame Pierce....please.

He did what he was instructed to do. You can use catchy FOX type lines like he set the sport back decades or whatever you want. It was less than one second. How many other UFC fighters are leg lock specialists? Not many ever have the opportunity to finish via heel hook to possibly hold it for a second too long, but tere sure are fighters who are GnPing people and have to be puled off and throw a strike or two as the ref is pulling them off...

Dude fought 4-5 months after that. You need at LEAST 6 months off for any serious knee injury. You can call me a moran al you want, but the reality is that no one has been seriously injured from any of his heel hooks in the UFC.
