Benavidez: Destiny doesn't mean s--t

Back at UFC 152 in September 2012, when Benavidez first battled Johnson for the strap, he had his eyes, heart and mind set on becoming the UFC Flyweight Champion. With complete focus on achieving his lifetime goal of wearing the belt, Benavidez admitted that perhaps he went into the title fight overly invested in the end result.

“That wasn’t that fun for me,” said Benavidez. “I was just like ‘Oh my God, hurry up. I wanna just do this.’ And I’ve never felt like that. It’s always fun for me, like I can’t wait to get in there and have a good time.

“So it’s just something I don’t want to do again. I realize you can’t control the result of like being the champion. You could put a f***** picture on your mantle. You can say ‘I’m meant to do this’, but that doesn’t mean s*** at the end of the day. Like oh ‘that’s my destiny’. Destiny doesn’t mean s***, you gotta go out and get it.”

I like benavidez. I recall a long video following him around and he was talking about stuff (possibly supplements) and he clearly didn't know exactly what the ins and outs were, but he said at the same time he wasn't exactly sure. Humility like that makes me a fan. It's the same as a Sherk interview I saw where someone asked if he could beat Edgar (not knowing he already lost to him) and Sherk said he already beat me.Back to the point: I agree with Benavidez said, you can say all that stuff but it doesn't mean anything. Before every fight both fighters can say it's their destiny but only one guy wins at the end.Another saying I hate is the "you can do anything you put your mind to" saying. What a joke when it comes to combat sports.
