Fitch: Velasquez would beat Cormier

Cain Velasquez is the most dominant heavyweight in the UFC and the current champion. Daniel Cormier is one of the heavyweight division's fastest rising stars, but as a teammate of Velasquez, has opted to move to the light heavyweight division. However, should the two ever meet in the Octagon, teammate Jon Fitch believes he knows who he would favor:

"[Cormier] is not a true heavyweight. He might be 225, 230 soaking wet. He's not a heavyweight. He's so good as an athlete and a fighter that he can get away with beating heavyweights up, but he's not a true heavyweight. Just based on size, you have two guys who are equally skilled, equal work ethic, equal punching power, equal everything, you're going to put your money on the guy who weighs more."

Easy? I don't think so. I think Cormier throws a 1-2 sharper and faster than Cain. His wrestling is also better. Cain has mauling and stamina factor that would come into play though. I think it would be a very competitive fight.

We simply disagree mate. I mean I do agree this is about Fitchs opinion not the rest. Good day

That doesn't mean anything. I'll bet they have never, ever proposed seriously Cormier fighting Cain. It has never happened, and it's not what this thread is about. It's about John Fitch's opinion, nothing more and nothing less.

Fitch is dropping logic.

Dana has said he'd love to have them fight. If you think the fight hasn't been proposed I don't know what to say.

They were not asked to fight each other. This is Fitch giving his opinion.

No Cain would be like Nick Diaz at LHW

Saying Cain would beat Cormier is obviously reasonable, but Fitch can't even come up with a good argument as to why. Neither Cormier nor Cain are "true heavyweights", as both could easily get to 205. And the size difference would only amount to about 2 inches height and 10 lbs bodyweight - pretty darn close.
