White 'heartbroken' over Bellator's PPV cancellation

Last week Tito Ortiz announced that he was injured and would be unable to compete at Bellator's inaugural PPV event scheduled for November 2nd. Bellator later announced the event would be moved off PPV and onto Spike TV without a suitable replacement for Rampage Jackson. Dana White was asked how he felt about the situation at the UFN 30 post-fight press conference and he answered in typical Dana White fashion:

"It's unfortunate," he said sarcastically at the post-event press conference for this past Saturday's UFC Fight Night 30 event. "It breaks my heart. Couldn't happen to a better bunch of guys."

Because they didn't overrule him on a dayum thing. NONE of them wanted a REALITY show- like TUF or anything else- they wanted a weekly fight show like Friday Night Fights but couldn't get one from ANY network. The Brotitta's had American Casino and were working with Craig Piligian already and doing something like an American Promoter type of reality show (DW vlogs were born from this concept and are successful because folks love behind the scenes stuff) would at least get MMA in peoples livingrooms. Bro's were down for it but DW didn't want the focus on him (he knows how he is-lol) so they kept at it and continued to try and pursue a weekly show of fights w/a ton of networks. Spike got the AP pitch and liked it because they saw how the similar POV had kept AC on the air for 5-6 seasons so it looked like AP was going to have to be the Trojan horse to take them to the next level. But all of that changed in less than 24 hours before the big meeting when DW and HIS CREW hammered out TUF one night in a marathon gathering that wouldn't end until like 7:30 am. The end result was what has aired for 18 seasons now:) Spike liked the AP concept so much that an entire season was filmed (in addition to TUF) and would have been new content for their network but DW pulled the plug on it a few years ago. Now he does his own vlogs (not UFC vlogs) and can say and do whatever he wants. He's much happier. I know the cooler story goes something like DW didn't want it and the Bro's did so they told him to STFU and "overruled" him but that story couldn't be farther from the truth. They were going to have to do a reality show in order to get the UFC on the air and while none of them were pleased with the route they'd have to take to get there, they moved forward, made the most of it and it led to bigger and better things via live fight shows, talk shows, replays of PPV events, as well as the ability to air past fights via Unleashed. Ask Lorenzo or someone from Spike in the know for the story. Its not like its impossible to do;)   Cindy

LOL, EPIC Fail CINDY.When the shit hits the fan, and it WILL hit the fan. I'm talking about Karma catching up with all the douchebaggery that Dana has done over the years, it will hit HARD and FAST.i would NOT want to be in DANA's shoes when Karma comes calling to even out the score. I'm sure Dana has done some really good things chairty wish that we don't alwasy find out about and he has done some cool things to help fighters but he's done a TON of mean, hateful, vengeful things that will come back to haunt him.I'm being serious too.

I really enjoy Bellator. I was going to buy the PPV's to support them since they're doing their best to make it in a very difficult business to make it in.

So Cindy, how can you agree that Dana had been the greatest promoter in history when he was hesitant on UF? The UfC was leaking cash until Frank and Lorenzo overruled him on TUF. I would think the brothers are the reason the UFC are where they are, in spite of Dana.

I never expected this type of compassion from Dana White over a competitor. Perhaps he is mellowing in his old age?
