Every fighter that was under contract with the old SF and then came over to the UFC had to sign a new Zuffa contract to make sure they had their clauses in place. Some fighters were able to negotiate pay increases to switch to these contracts. But Melendez's price $150k starting with $25k increase each time he wins came from the SF contract he signed in 2011.

Perhaps his trainers, coaches and gym worked with him pro bono. Not sure why Viacom won't at least pay a decent starting rate of at least 5k. They can afford it.   Cindy

Jeesh $1500 is what the prelim guys make at the bottom?  That enough to pay your first month's mortage or rent in some states. Maybe MMA is going to have to start teaming up with Boxing promotions to get their guys to make six an seven figures or more?
