Early last month Stipe Miocic’s manager said his fighter, coming off a win over Roy Nelson, was looking for a match up with Gabriel Gonzaga. Gonzaga is coming off his second first round KO in four months, icing Dave Herman and Shawn Jordan.
Gonzaga’s manager and Team Link head coach, Marco Alvan told MMAFighting they are game.
"We are interested in any fight the UFC offers, and Stipe Miocic is a great fighter," said Alvan. "He’s well ranked in the UFC, he’s coming off a great win over Roy Nelson, and that fight makes sense for Gonzaga right now. It would be a great opportunity to get Gonzaga closer to the Top 5, and that’s what he wants."
Now the parties have come to terms.
Cleveland.com reports that Gabriel Gonzaga will fight Stipe Miocic at UFC on FOX 10 on Jan. 25 at United Center in Chicago. This will be the UFC’s first FOX-televised event of 2014.
Gonzaga is 4-1 since his return to the UFC in 2012, with all four wins averaging under just 100 seconds. The sole loss, to Travis Browne, was hotly contested by Gonzaga's camp, who contended that the blows were illegal.
UFC on FOX 10 card lineup currently stands at:
Benson Henderson vs. Josh Thomson
Darren Elkins vs. Jeremy Stephens
Gabriel Gonzaga vs. Stipe Miocic
