Franklin: Next fight is my last

At a time when the UFC needed stars, Rich Franklin was one of their big ones. A long time dominant middleweight and sometimes, light heavyweight Franklin was given a big push by the UFC, coached the Ultimater Fighter, and gained the UFC middleweight title. Now, 39 years old and out of title convention, it seems as though Franklin is close to hanging up his gloves, as he told AXS TV:

"You know, I lost my last fight, and that really kind of solidified my decision to make this my last fight coming up. I know that took me out of title contention and so for me to get back into the title hunt would be a couple years' worth of work and I know that. I'm 39, I'll be 40 next year and it's getting to the point where it's late in my life and it's really too late to have that title run so I started questioning, what am I really fighting for, if I can't make it to the title anymore? I know I'm not in title contention anymore and I realize that so, that's how it is."

I've always felt Franklin never quite got the respect he deserved. It's maybe hard to remember for some now but before Anderson turned up he was the man at 185. I hope he goes out on big win.

Has Rich fought Chris Leben? 2 veterans - I'm sure the UFC can market the shit out of it if he has: bisping or Kennedy 185 Little Nog, Rashad or Bader 205 Shogun, Rashad Franklinweight

Rich against Tanner was an all time war. As well against crow. Rich n chuck were truly caught in a changing of the guard so to speak.

Seems like only yesterday Rich was the best middleweight in the world. Now he barely scrapes the top 20. This sport moves so fast, and doesn't slow down for anyone. Would like to see Rich retire on a win.

Agreed. One of the few fighters who I get emotional about when they lose.
