Shinya Aoki turns down UFC offer

Chatri Sityodtong
•The rumors are true. UFC offered contracts to 3 fighters on the Evolve Fight Team: Shinya Aoki, Eddie Ng, and Leandro Brodinho. After careful reflection, Shinya and Eddie have both decided to stay in ONE FC due to more favorable economics. Brodinho has not made a final decision yet and is currently thinking through everything.
•Leandro "Brodinho" Issa from the Evolve Fight Team is now a UFC fighter! :)
•At the end of the day, it is a personal decision for a fighter where he/she chooses to compete.
•I'd love to see Evolve fighters in every major organization around the world.

It is a little known fact that the Iron Man comic and movie franchise is actually based on Chatri Sityodtong, albeit loosely. Rising from homelessness as a child, Sityodtong eventually received an MBA from Harvard, in 1999. Not long after, he joined Bain and Company as a management consultant. Bain may be familiar to UGers through 2012's "The Dark Knight Rises."

For the next several years Chatri was involved in Internet start ups, investment banking, real estate, and other ventures, making untold millions.

As a child, the half Japanese, half Thai Chatri began training in Muay Thai under Kru Yodtong Senanan at Sityodtong Camp in Pattaya, Thailand. Kru Yodtong eventually bestowed on him the name YodChatri Sityodtong. Chatri's fight career and financial career overlapped, with the last of his 30 fights taking place in 2008. Kru Yodtong appointed Chatri Sityodtong as one of four conservators worldwide of Sityodtong Muay Thai.

In 2008, Sityodtong founded the Evolve MMA chain of martial arts academies. By 2013, Evolve MMA was widely regarded as the top MMA gym in Asia, and Chatri as one of the sport's top coaches. He has trained, coached, or cornered MMA fighters such as Shinya Aoki, Rich Franklin, Rafael dos Anjos, BJJ wrld champions Zorobabel Moreira and Leandro Issa Da Silva, and strikers including Muay Thai world champion Yoddecha Sityodtong, and former WBA world champion Yodsanan Sor Nanthachai.

Earlier this year he launched Evolve University, Asia's largest online university for martial arts.

Chatri is also a sought after motivational speaker, and is involved with a number of charitable efforts, including Project Sunshine for terminally-ill children, Singapore's Boys Town Home for orphans and troubled children, and Singapore Children's Society for underprivileged children.

And he has a really cool Twitter account - follow him!

Do you honestly think the UFC employs him? Taking paranoia to a new level.

No way. Hendricks wasn't the draw. GSP was. No way Hendricks' contract included points or such bonuses. I'm certain DFW gave him a bonus but no way Johnny made "millions". Unless he negotiated a new deal before this event.

I'm just providing feedback as a spectator, but Shinya didn't look his normal self at all against Cody Stevens. Maybe it was the weight cut?

Smart move by Ng. He's young and will continue to develop. When he hits the UFC he will be built properly and make a career out of the call. One FC has made his career so far and is helping develop him. Eddie Ng made a great decision and I'm sure you'll see him as a name in the UFC one day.

Aoki didn't like the ref who kept standing them up the second it went to the ground VS Melendez........and then did the exact opposite in the Henderson/Shields match.I believe he refs for the ufc as well.

Thanks for responding Mr Sims. As you know, Aoki and Ng turned down UFC offers a month ago. Whether this was a decision they made as stated in Chatri's press release, was made collectively as you imply, or which was made for them as I was advised at the time, really does not matter at the end of the day - you are of course correct that none of this had to do with Aoki ducking high level competition as many have speculated on this thread. As I fan of Aoki, I can only hope you are right and that oneFC finds some decent competition for him at LW like Boku and not more matches against guys like Cody and Lepont.
