Barnatt: Conor McGregor team buys twitter followers

Rising British star, TUF 17's Luke Barnatt appeared on Monday’s episode of The MMA Hour, and accused Conor McGregor of having a fake following on Twitter.

"Paradigm is the management company that I believe that Conor McGregor is under," alleges Barnatt as transcribed by B/R. "They have this interesting concept that they believe that your following is depicted by how many people you have on Twitter, so your whole MMA following, if you've got followers on Twitter, then obviously you’re a big deal, and they find that easier to go out and get sponsorships and make you look important.

"So they employ this thing called Tweetbot. You pay a certain amount of money, and you get these fake followers. So they’re built and they’re made by a computer, and they follow certain people. If you go through the followers, the Paradigm guys, not all of them but some of them, you’ll find these rival accounts that make up a lot of the percentage for people who is following. Yeah it makes them look like they’re a big deal, it makes them look like they’ve got lots of fans, and it makes them look important."

"I’m not jealous of Conor, he’s a cool guy. I've met him a few times. But I just think if you want to be fake and you pretend like you’re a big deal by getting all of these followers then calling out people like Diego Sanchez is weak, and things like that start to irritate me. If you’re going to call somebody out, for one you call somebody out in your own weight division, and number two, you call somebody out who is coming off of a win. You don’t call somebody out who’s a loser. What’s the point in that? It don’t make much sense in my eyes."

McGregor has found notoriety with a speed not seen since Brock Lesnar,. In the space of less than a year he has gone from being on welfare to wearing custom made suits and hanging out with UFC president Dana White in a Ferarri.

Regardless of the veracity of Barnatt's allegations, McGregor has used it to excellent effect. Most recently the Irishman got Diego Sanchez to agree to a fight.

As far as I'm aware, McGregor had been talking about Sanchez long before he had lost to Melendez. I don't think he just picked Sanchez after a loss. Also, what's wrong with calling out a guy above your weight class? Especially one that is usually in FOTN contention.

It can be fairly accurate it assess the follower's activity, sign up date etc. so if you created a twitter account, then suddenly 100,000 new accounts signed up as well in that same period, the only single activity of those 100,000 accounts was to follow you and then zero activity from those accounts ever again, it can conclude those 100,000 accounts are fake. Quite amusing actually:   Twitter Audit Report Dana White @danawhite     1,409,199 Real 1,028,861 Fake   Followers 58% Audit score View audit Tweet this Audited 9 months ago         Twitter Audit Report Jon Bones Jones @JonnyBones 406,345 Real 183,416 Fake Followers 69% Audit score View audit Tweet this Audited 7 months ago

Well for starters Diego called Connor out, secondly Diego was coming off a win at the time and thirdly Diego is a weight class higher than Connor. Also Diego isn't a great by any stretch of the imagination. So what is your problem with 2 fighters wanting to fight each other, apart from you being a sensitive 13 year old girl?

What is it about Twitter that makes it better than something like say Facebook, which is much more streamlined, not limited to how many characters one can use and altogether neater and easier to read? Celebs and athletes can do status updates and interact on there just as easily as they can on Twitter. So please, use your superior intellect and explain what is so great about it without falling on the same standbys as "Celebs!" "Breaking sports news!".
