Dan Henderson: Belfort loses to Weidman, 'especially' with no TRT

The next challenger for Chris Weidman's middleweight championship is Vitor Belfort, who fought three times last year, winning each by KO, via head kick. The fight will likely be in May, with indications that it will be in Vegas.

However, a difficult question hangs over the fight - will Belfort receive a Therapeutic Use Exemption for Testosterone Replacement Therapy? One potential cause of low testosterone is prior abuse of PEDs, and Belfort tested positive in Las Vegas in 2006. Thus the Nevada State Athletic Commission has expressed reservations about licensing Belfort, and the UFC intends to hold the fight in Vegas.

Belfort has been granted Therapeutic Use Exemptions for TRT by other commissions, but Nevada is particularly careful in this regard.

Belfort expressed confidence that he would be licensed.

"I'm able to fight anywhere," said Belfort. "I have done everything by the book. Everybody knows that people cheat, but I don't. I'm very open and very loyal to my principles."

However, Dan Henderson, who is coming off a November loss to Belfort, appeared recently on The MMA Hour, and offered a contrary opinion. Hendo, who himself uses TRT, said that "The Phenom" will not be issued a TUE, and that he would lose.

When asked if Belfort would beat Weidman, Hendo was blunt.

"No," he replied, as transcribed by Adam Guillen Jr for MMAMania. "Vitor is very capable of beating anybody in those first few minutes of the fight because he is dangerous and he hits hard. But, I don't see it happening, especially if the fight is in the US.

"I don't know, I'm not going to point fingers and say things I have no idea about. Obviously he won't be able to use TRT here. I just feel his body has definitely changed a little bit in the last couple of years since he hasn't been fighting here. There's reasons for that. He's been fighting a long time and we've seen his body change a couple of different times. It is what it is. At the same time, I have no idea, he could be doing everything right by the book and the way he should. Which is what he should have done years ago, as well."

bottom line is its ridiculous for a fighter on TRT to insinuate another fighter on TRT is cheating. There is a disproportionate number of 'clean' athletes that seem to need TUE than any other cross section of society. The reason is that they all need it for the same fucking reason. They all juiced in Japan and the early day of the sport before legit testing and regulation and they all have low test because of it.Its completely disingenuous for Dan to pretend like Vitor is some black sheep who shouldn't be getting an exemption while the rest of them get their TRT.That kind of comment is really slimy.

with or without TRT, there is an obvious path to victory for Belfort.Actually doing it is a completely different thing.

Hendo could have absued the shit out of TRT durring training. He couldve had the T levels and recovery of an 18 year old, making significant gains in training, and tapered off as the fight got closer while reaping all the benefits Factually Hendo was NOT BEING monitored or tested during camp. So that couldve easily been the case. There will always be that question mark and asterisk by Hendo's victory over Shogun. Its dumb to say Hendo was 43....because while on TRT Hendo had been fighting NOTHING like a 43 year old.Let this sink in, Hendo at 43 years of age on TRT was looking better then he had ever looked as a younger fighter. Thats suspicious no matter how you want to try to cut itHendo being 43 to Shogun being 30 is irrelevant. With Hendo being on TRT vs Shogun, Hendo might as well have been 25-30 that nightTRT allowed Hendo to keep his experience plus gain youth. Not to mention the allegations of Hendo abusing TRT durring camp to make significant gains. Hendo had a huge unfair advanatge against Shogun...thats the cold hard truth....it was bullshit....Shogun took punishment from a TRT enhanced fighter....so fuck your excuses rant.....and yet Shogun still almost went on to beat TRT Hendo...imagine if the fight was fought on an even playing fieldYou also dont realise that Shogun couldve had low T levels vs Hendo who was on TRT. Many have speculated that Shogun has low T levels due to all the injuries he has had etcYou also have NO IDEA how many injuries Shogun came into the Hendo fight with. Again, just pointing out factsShogun wasnt close to 100% that night...regardless of what Hendo was doing, Shogun had the ability to perform much better and do much better depsite the fight already being a war as it isShogun was still able to give us the greatest fight of all time vs TRT Hendo while he was injuriedYou should be able to appreciate Shogun's performance even more considering that. Shogun deserves all the praise in the world for what he wemt through in camp and still managed to do vs TRT Hendo on fight nightHere is what Rambo said that really drives the point home.Hendo without TRT likely gets finished by Shogun in that 4th round or even in the 5th round. Hell Shogun on the same amount of TRT that Hendo was on, likely would have killed Hendo Hendo is one of the big TRT cheats along with Sonnen and VitorBUT its funny how Hendo wants to deride Vitor for TRT when Hendo himself has TRT to thank for his wins over Shogun and Fedor
