Leben retires from MMA

Chris Leben is a long-time veteran of mixed martial arts and has been fighting professional since 2003. Eleven years and many wars later, Leben has decided it's time to retire from the sport.

Leben made the announcement on today's edition of the MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani. Chris Leben was a pioneer for the sport and was a member of the first ever cast for the Ultimate Fighter reality show. He won five of his first six official UFC bouts, but since has been off and on and never really put together a win streak needed to make it to the top of the division.

He however as always been an exciting fighter and fought in some of the divisions more memorable battles. His live by the sword or die by the sword attitude made him a fan favorite albeit at the expensive of wins sometimes.

He might be the fighter that grew on me the most of any fighter in the UFC.  The Silva, Simpson, Akiyama run was one of the best ever and I blew my load when Akiyama tapped to the triangle.  derp.  Another non-point fighter leaves the game.  Hope to see him remain active in coaching and at the gym in Hawaii.  He has a lot to offer the young blood.
