White: Pettis vs. Aldo superfight possible

The lightweight division is currently without a clear #1 contender:
•T.J. Grant is still recovering from a freak concussion suffered during grappling practice;
•Benson Henderson was insufficiently impressive vs. Josh Thomson;
•Thomson lost to Henderson;
•Gilbert Melendez lost a title shot last year and has only a single win since, albeit a thrilling one, over Diego Sanchez;
•Donald Cerrone was taken out in under three minutes by Pettis last year;
•Khabib Nurmagomedov does not yet have a win over a top 10 opponent; and,
•Nate Diaz is 1-2 his last three fights, with losses to both Thomson and Henderson.

UFC president thought outside the box, and make have come up with a solution for who Anthony Pettis will fight when he returns following a knee injury.

White appeared recently on FOX Sports Live, and said the next person to get a shot at Pettis could be featherweight champion Jose Aldo, provided of course that he defeats Ricardo Lamas at UFC 169 on Saturday.

The reply came in reference to a statement that Aldo has done it all at featherweight.

"I agree with you," said White as transcribed by MMAMania. "It's tough for him to make that weight. And it wouldn't be a bad idea that when Pettis comes back, for [Aldo]  and Pettis to fight. We were going to do that fight once at Aldo's weight, it might not be a bad idea for him, should he win this weekend, to possibly move up."

So what do you think UG? Sunday morning, could the #1 lightweight contender be a featherweight?

It's a super fight to me. Both guys are champs in their respective divisions, and they are two of the most dynamic strikers in the sport. Last year when this fight was talked about and almost happened, this board was almost shitting it's pants. Now you guys aren't excited because they are calling it a "super fight"??!I don't care what they call it, we are in for a treat if this fight ever happens.

"complains about the definition of a word used to describe the fight.""champion vs champion is very much a superfight, esp when it includes 2 of the best strikers in the sport "You are doing the same thing they are just on the other side of the argument. You just seem upset that not everyone is subscribing to YOUR definition of what a superfight is, which considering you added edgar aldo to the list of superfights i dont know exactly what it is you are defining, cause its not about champ vs champ.
