Pat Barry taking indefinite leave from MMA, kickboxing return a possibility

Brian Butler, Managing Partner for the top flight MMA management company Sucker Punch Entertainment, has released a message, saying UFC heavyweight Pat Barry, 34, is taking an indefinite leave from competing in MMA.

Barry and Butler apparently discussed the issue over the past several weeks before making the decision. The UFC and ZUFFA have graciously in released him from his contract.

Barry explains...

"Over the past few fights I've just had this sinking feeling in my stomach whenever I have stepped into the Octagon and I realize, I DONT WANT TO WRESTLE," said the fighter. "Not saying I will never do MMA again, but right now I just want to hit people. MMA and the UFC have been great to me and I will always support the company and the sport. I want to thank all my fans, sponsors and haters for being with me on this journey and I look forward to what future holds."

Butler added that Barry may in fact transition to a more striking oriented combat sport, seeking further glory in kickboxing.

"Pat and I have talked about this for a while now and with recent changes in the landscape of combat sports, he wants to explore some options and try to get back to his roots," said Butler. "He's going to take a little time to clear his head and then we will explore our options. We will keep you posted on things as they develop."

Barry has fought in the UFC since 2008, going 5-7. He came to mixed martial arts not from wrestling, but from kickboxing, where he went 18-6-, including nine fights in K-1.

Farewell Pat, thanks for the memories. Hope to see you in Glory, or at the very least, back in the corner of an MMA fight.

How in the fuck did you get that from what was said? The kickboxer doesn't want to wrestle with big gigantic WRESTLERS. What's so crazy about that? It's a fact, it's a lot easier to take somebody down, than it is to stop somebody from taking you down, especially when it's a big ass, experienced wrestler that's trying to take you down.
