Sonnen: Wand is fat, stressed, and wants out

This weekend the UFC announced that Chael Sonnen vs. Wanderlei Silva will take place as the co-main event of UFC 173 in May. Sonnen was happy to know the date of the fight finally, but he says Wanderlei Silva is none to happy about the situation:

Sonnen has used to Twitter to post about Silva having meltdowns and losing his temper. Today he tells Fighters Only he thinks that stress is behind the Brazilian’s outbursts.

“Wand is fat. He hasn't taken his shirt off since we have been here,” Sonnen writes by email.

“He thought our fight would be in July, but it got announced for May. He's stressed and trying to get out of it.”

UFC throws their weight behind making Sonnen a star...UFC suddenly sees ratings drop huge.  Coincidence?

I already explained why I give Wanderlei on paper a slight edge. I am kind of surprised you use challenging for a title as some sort of advantage.  Chael's last  2 title fights he climbed his way up by losing his prior fights. Not to mention he got utterly dominated in both  his title fights.

How would you give Wand a slight edge? He hasn't been able to put any kind of win streak together nor even come close to challenging for a title. Chael by far has the edge over Wand in their recent UFC stints.

It was a miracle that Wandy didn't get knocked out by Stann.

The original comment of mine that started the quote of who fought who, was based on their most recent UFC stints.   Going off that, Wanderlei and Chael both haven't done much. The main difference is Wanderlei has a more successful background. Now if you think Chael will win b/c of his style, that's a better argument to make, but in terms of competition, and how they have faired(in their most recent UFC stints), it's about a wash with me giving Wanderlei a slight edge.

You can't really include his pride fights in his prime to what we are seeing lately. He was younger his chin was intact (and we all know he was roided to the gills over the pond)For christs sake in his second meeting with Cro cop wasn't he actually heavier than cro copNOT bashing him as I was and am a huge fan but he came over and he was not the same. Lets look at this logicallySadly Wandy hasn't won back to back fights since 2006!!! those being Arona and then FujitaAfter that it was 2 devastating knock outs back to back from Hendo and Cro Cop which I think destroyed his chin with both knockoust coming within a 5 month time span. Then he had a great war against Liddel where he lost handidly as well, while getting rocked all over the place further damaging his already hurt chin. 2 fights later Rampage clobbers him with a left that would have put anyone down pretty much finishing it off That is 3 lights out KO's within less than 2 1/2 years ...Luckily he faced some lighter hitters in Franklin and then Bisping but lost to Franklin in a decision and beat bisping who was fighting rather cautiously the entire fight. Then the Leben disaster. One again put completely out. This time in 27 seconds. Leben?!?! The UFC's slowest (albiet a hard hitter) finished him in 27 seconds?!Nothing can take away wandy in his primes legacy but since coming over the UFChe has won one lost one to less than elite fighters. Sure Chael has lost plenty .... but its to the top of the food chain and future hall of famers in Anderson and Bones who was twice his damn size. Also losing to Rashad who is also a potential future hall of famer is not anything to be ashamed of. Since he has been in the UFC Chael, besides the Demian Maia loss he has only lost to champs/former champs in their primes while wandy has been losing to guys NOT in their prime or elite. While the fans will hate to admit it, Wandy is way past his prime (6 years removed in my opinion) and Chael while maybe not in his prime, is definitely closer to it than wandy. Additionally he is armed with the style that is tailor made to beat an agressive striker like Wandy who is not exactly a TDD savant.

Easy win for Chael as long as he doesn't get in trouble early. I'm a big Chael fan but he does tend to pack it up once he faces adversity.

I agree that Chael is unlikely to stand and trade haymakers with The Axe Murderer, but Wand's guard game is very solid. I could see Sonnen playing around in Silva's guard and eventually getting caught in a submission.
