http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1961800-ufc-fight-night-36-lessons-we-learned-from-brazilUFC Fight Night 36: Lessons We Learned from BrazilCould Tactical Fights Become the Norm? It's most likely a series of matchup flukes, but we should think about evolution of the sport, as well. With 10 decisions out of 12 fights, last night gave us a reason to fear a chilling effect from the abolition of KO and Submission of the Night bonuses in favor of the grayer Performance of the Night bonus. The UFC still gave the performance bonuses to Erick Silva and Charles Oliveira for their respective knockout and submission. Lyoto Machida and Gegard Mousasi won the Fight of the Night bonus, though, and that's important because it illustrates the gulf between boring and skillful. They fought a measured, precise and entertaining fight. Tactical and technical doesn't have to mean tentative and slow, and they showed us how and why. If the evolution of boxing is any indication, the UFC could be moving toward fewer finishes. Boxing had far more KO's and TKO's in its early days. We might be getting a development of Octagon-craft at the cost of finishes.

Did I say anything about the quality of the card? All I said was "12 fights, 10 decision, 2 finishes". You read way too much into my statement. The card was average not bad just average IMO. It did set one record though...UFC Fight Night 36 sets record for longest UFC event of all time.

i think many people who are shitting on Jacares performance dont realize how good carmont really is..just because he doesnt have flashy wins over top comp doesnt mean anything..the guy is a huge mdwt with good grappling..Jacare is an awesome grappler but still Carmont defended him well..credit should go to Carmont instead of bashing jacare.. Machida did what he had to do to win, but it wasnt a good fight.. id rather see Jacare fight the winner of weidman/Belfort..

Are you so dumb that that's how you judge the quality of a card? This card wasn't great, but it was good. Off the top of my head I enjoyed both Alcantera fights, Andrede costing himself his fight like a jackass was fun, Silva looked great and it's so stupid that people are saying he was given a can. He fought some big dogs and lost so he slid a little, now he beats up a guy around his level and it's a mismatch? Should he have be given a top ten after losing to a guy that might not be top 10? Anyway, I also enjoyed the Machida fight. If you just want to see KOs, he's not for you. But if you understand the nuances of fighting, he's art in motion. Watching Machida is like watching Mayweather. Moose would've been put to sleep if he was more aggressive, and I think he knows that. Just sucks that Jacare is so overrated. That lay and pray from back mount was horrid to watch. I've always thought he was overrated though. Maybe in that 8-12 range in the division, but for some reason people act like he's top top 4. Would love to see him fight Chael after Wandy finds a way to avoid him.

Average fighters do not spend 10 minutes of a 15 minute fight rear mounted on Francis Carmont. He was close to getting a finish three times, and he landed a bunch of hard strikes. It would have been nice if he got the choke, but in 2014 it is tough to RNC a top competitor who is not stunned. Ask John Thompson.

Good point, but not everyone is Shogun. You train your whole life to fight with a certain style and set of techniques, you can't just flip the switch and become someone else for one fight.Shogun is an aggressive, blitzing fighter. That's just not who Moussasi is. I agree, though, he should have committed to a game plan that was heavier in leg kicks. Also, for those saying Machida is boring- he wasn't boring when the kicked Munoz in the head was he? Well, what's the difference tonight? Only that Moussasi did not go down.

ufc 169 was a record for the UFC, ten decisions on one cardif oliveira hadnt got that triangle on ogle, this one would have broken the record already (11)as it is, it ties for 10

News flash: Based on tonight's performances, neither "deserve" a title shot. When one of them defeats the other, or a top-5 opponent, then they can talk title shot. Jacare rode the back of a purple belt grappler to a decision and got tuned up in the 2nd round to boot. Machida's performance was better, but only in the sense that it was done against better competition.
