Cormier wants no.1 contender or title fight next

Despite beating a UFC new comer at UFC 170, Daniel Cormier debuted in the light heavyweight rankings at sixth. The strong ranking is due to his success in the heavyweight division since joining the UFC roster.

For his next fight, Cormier would either like an immediate title shot, or fight whoever a win over would give him a title shot. Ariel Helwani reported the news on the latest UFC Tonight:

Helwani on who Daniel Cormier wants to fight next: “He wants nothing less than a number-one contender match. He says he’ll be ok fighting the winner of Phil Davis vs. Anthony Johnson. If Jimi Manuwa beats Alexander Gustafsson, he believes he should get the next title fight. He wants number-one contender or title shot right away. ”

Sure. 1 fight in his current weight class over a guy with 4 pro fights. Title fight seems reasonable, especially in "The XFL of MMA".

What? The UFC would love another black champ. They fawn over any decent black fighter who enters the cage.

This is what I've heard...The UFC is not going to allow any more black champions for awhile. They preferably want White champs for marketability but will settle for Brazilians and/or Latinos, so they will make the top black guys keep fighting each other and moving the loser way back and making the winner face another black person or some second tier non black fighter.

Man I want to see the rematch with Gus but DC vs Boney would be sick.

Gus is already ranked #1. He could have turned down Manuwa and waited The Jones/Tex winner.DC will get Johnson/Davis.. IMO Davis.Davis V DC would be a war.

The Pat Cummins win was better than anything anyone else at 205 has accomplished in the past year. Over 40 fucking fighters ducked Cummins before Cormier stepped up to slay the undefeated "Barista Beast". He's not the champ, so he can't be number one at 205 (yet), but I'd definitely rank him number 1 P4P.

DC vs Jones and Jones vs Gus 2 are the most interesting title fights out there at LHW in my opinion.

I guess I can understand the sense of urgency with getting a shot at the title, DC is no spring chicken. I would like to see him fight a top 10 LHW first, but if he available and there's no one else the why not.

Sounds fair and reasonable. Now he's got a taste of blood again, I don't know if he fights as safe. One more fight would be good to find out.
